Be sure to stop by the Fire Hall while you're out trick-or-treating! Costumes, candies and hot beverages available from 5-9 p.m.

While you're out and about, be sure to stay safe with the following tips 👇
👻 Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters:
Always travel in groups and have an adult accompany young children.
Carry flashlights or glow sticks so you can be seen in the dark.
Use sidewalks whenever possible and cross streets at crosswalks.
Check all treats before eating them — stick to factory-sealed goodies.

🚗 Safety Tips for Drivers:
Stay alert and drive slowly in residential neighborhoods.
Be prepared for excited children darting into the street.
Avoid distractions — put your phone down while driving.
Use your headlights early to help spot pedestrians.

👮‍♀️ Police Presence:
The Valley City Police Department will have officers on patrol throughout the evening to help ensure everyone’s safety. If you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it.

NOTICE: Scheduled Training Exercise

The James Valley Special Operations Team (JSOT) will be conducting a training exercise in the 700 block of 6th Avenue SW on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, during the afternoon and evening hours.

As part of the training, JSOT personnel will deploy breaching charges and distraction devices. These tools create loud bangs that may be heard in the surrounding area. There is no threat to the public—this is a planned training exercise only.

The Valley City Police Department, as a member of JSOT, participates in these exercises to enhance officer readiness, improve tactics, and ensure community safety during real emergency situations. Training is conducted in city-owned buildings to provide realistic environments that best prepare officers for critical incidents.

We appreciate our community’s patience and cooperation during this training. Your support allows us to better prepare for emergencies and continue working together to keep Valley City safe.

A big thank you to the Valley City Fire and Rescue for volunteering their time and talents at the Brady Larson Memorial Derby! Our crew was busy support, watering the track Friday night and all day Saturday, and even stepping in to help with crowd control for the bands. We’re proud to serve our community both on and off duty!
