Van ISD

Van ISD Being a Vandal is something in which we take a lot of pride. But just graduating from high school is not enough to succeed in the real world.

Van ISD inspires and prepares all students to be successful in a rapidly changing world. Whether it be the rich traditions, the talented students, or the mystique of this small East Texas town, we are very proud of our Vandal roots which began with the discovery of the Van Oil Field in 1929. Our kids are known for their compet

itiveness and how hard they work in the classroom as well as in all extra-curricular activities. The students of Van ISD have earned numerous state championships in academics, fine arts, and athletics. At Van ISD, our core belief is, β€œEVERY child has the right to be prepared to attend college, and it is the responsibility of the adults in our schools to put systems in place to make that happen.” This is a responsibility we take very seriously. We believe a students’ pursuit of a college education begins the moment they walk through our doors in kindergarten and continues as they complete their high school diploma. Our desire is that every student who graduates from Van High School will pursue a college degree or some form of post secondary education. Educating a child is a team effort. Please join us as we encourage your kids to dream about what they can become. After High School Comes College!

🚌✨ LEARNING IS ON THE MOVE AT VAN MIDDLE SCHOOL! ✨🚌

Who says descriptive writing has to happen at a desk?! Our 5th graders took their learning aboard the STEAM Bus for a hands-on lesson that put their senses β€” and their adjectives β€” to work!

Led by Brittany Rose, along with Van High School students Keeley Walker, Bradley White, Annabelle Reed, Jayse Wilson, Tiler Williams, and Brock Bostick, students rotated through three interactive stations, practicing descriptive writing every step of the way.

πŸ“¦ Station 1: Mystery Boxes
Stick your hand in... if you dare! 😳 Students reached inside without looking and then used adjectives to describe exactly what they felt.

πŸ‰ Station 2: Taste Testing
Lunch meat, dragon fruit, pomegranate, pork rinds, and potato chips were all on the menu! Students tasted their way through some familiar β€” and not-so-familiar β€” foods while putting words to the flavors and textures they experienced.

πŸ₯½ Station 3: VR Adventures
Students strapped on the headsets and took off on virtual adventures, using their experiences to fuel even more descriptive writing!

What an awesome day of taking concepts from the classroom and bringing them to life through hands-on, engaging experiences aboard the STEAM Bus! ❀️

Sometimes the best learning happens when we get out of our seats, try something new, and experience the lesson for ourselves!

πŸ¦ΊπŸ‰ HANDS-ON LEARNING AT VAN HIGH SCHOOL! πŸ‰πŸ¦Ί

What do PPE, teamwork, rubber bands, and a watermelon have in common? In Mrs. Caffey’s class, they made for one memorable lesson! πŸ˜‚

Students used the popular watermelon-and-rubber-band experiment as an opportunity to practice properly putting on their PPE, working together as a team, and completing a project from start to finish.

The goal? Work together to wrap an extraordinary number of rubber bands around a watermelon until... BOOM! πŸ‰πŸ’₯

Well... the watermelon needed a little extra β€œtrauma” before it finally gave in. πŸ˜‚ But the end result was just as sweet!

βœ… We suited up.
βœ… We worked together.
βœ… We practiced important skills.
βœ… And we even enjoyed a few bites of watermelon when it was all over! πŸ‰

Learning doesn't always have to happen from a textbook. Sometimes it looks like safety gear, teamwork, problem-solving, fresh air, a whole lot of rubber bands β€” and a watermelon that refuses to cooperate! ❀️

Hands-on learning is happening at Van High School, and our students are engaged in the process!
