🦟 Taking a Bite Out of Mosquito Season! 🦟

We had a fantastic turnout today at the Environmental Learning Center, with around 40 engaged community members coming together to learn how to keep our outdoors safe and itch-free!

A huge thank you to all of our guest speakers and special guests:

•Janice Broda (UF/IFAS Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory & Indian River Mosquito Control District “IRMCD” Commissioner), who introduced our featured speaker, Dr. Eva Buckner.

•Dr. Eva Buckner (UF/IFAS Extension Specialist & Associate Professor), who shared vital information on mosquito-borne diseases, prevention habits, and effective repellent options.

•Daniel Long (Aerial Supervisor) and Jeff Summersill (Agricultural Pilot) from the Indian River Mosquito Control District, who gave us an inside look at aerial larvicide treatments—from flying the iconic yellow airplane using larvicide pellets and corn husk materials to utilizing modern drone technology.

•Also joining us were new IRMCD Commissioner Anna Kirkland, Dr. Panpim Thongsripong (UF/IFAS), and IRMCD’s new Executive Director, Dr. Işık Unlu!

Thank you to everyone who joined us to get educated, ask great questions, and stay proactive. Here’s to enjoying our special outdoor spaces safely! 🌿✨
