Yesterday, we had our Sourdough 101 class with Tommy, it was a great introduction into proofing, stretching & folding, along with starters. Next week, he will be discussing the baking process.

Today was Story Time with a fun scarecrow theme. Tomorrow we will have our Chili Giveaway, stop in for a free bowl while supplies last!

We hope everyone is having a great fall break so far! SCPL will be closed on Monday, October 12th for Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, October 13th.

Cars left in the lot overnight will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Its been a full week so far, we had our Cook the Book program on Monday. They did an outstanding job and it was great to enjoy the food together. Then we had our Teen Craft: Macrame Spiderweb and today had several families for a Sunflower themed Story Time!

Fall is in the air, our October Scavenger Hunt out at the front desk with our October calendar and a basket of Pumpkin Spice Cookies available for those who drop in today, one per person while supplies last! Feel free to add to our Fall in Love with Reading Tree by recommending your favorite new read. 📚

In honor of Dolly Parton Day (9/25) and in support of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and her dedication to children's literacy, SCPL is pleased to announce the launch of our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge on Beanstack!

For every 100 books your preschool child reads, they will receive one free book of their choosing from the library. When all 1000 books are complete, they can be a “guest librarian” and display their favorite reads in the children’s room.

To join the challenge, download Beanstack from your phone's app store or visit scpl.beanstack.com to create an account. Please refer to our instructions if you need help! This challenge is only open for readers age 0-6, but we encourage adults to make their own accounts and add their children as "Readers," as we will be using Beanstack for other reading challenges for all ages throughout the year.

We also encourage eligible patrons to sign up their children for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library via imaginationlibrary.com. Dolly started the Imagination Library in 1995 in honor of her father, who never learned how to read. Now, with the help of donations and local charity partners, the organization sends books all over the world to children ages 0-5 at no cost to the families. In our community, the Community Foundation of Switzerland County, Inc. is the partner that keeps the program going. Please contact them if you would like to hear more about how to donate in order to sustain it in Switzerland County.
