🚨Paramedic of the Year🚨

Please join us in congratulating our 2026 Paramedic of the Year!

Beginning her EMS journey in 2018 after earning her EMT certification through HVCC, she went on to serve the community with Mohawk Ambulance before obtaining her Paramedic certification through SUNY Cobleskill in 2022. Since joining the Sheriff’s Office, she has become an outstanding provider, coworker, mentor, and teammate.

When asked what makes working here unique, she shared that it is the camaraderie and familial atmosphere among peers that keep her coming back each day. The kindness, compassion, and unwavering support shown both on and off duty truly reflect the culture of our EMS division.

One of the most meaningful moments in her career came during a late 2025 cardiac arrest call that resulted in ROSC and, ultimately, a positive neurological outcome for the patient. Today, that patient is back to spending time with family and has even returned to work. Calls like these remind us why EMS matters and highlight the incredible impact our providers can have on the lives of others.

Over the past year, she has also grown professionally through becoming a preceptor for her first Paramedic student. Through mentorship, patience, and leadership, she has continued to strengthen not only her clinical skills, but also her ability to support and guide others in the profession. She also shared a special shout out to her student, Vik, saying how proud she is of her growth and accomplishments.

When asked “Why EMS?” her answer says it best:

“EMS was never in the initial plans. I enrolled in EMT school on a whim, and now it’s 8 years later. Time has only deepened my passion for the job, and I’m so thankful every day that I love what I do. I get to be a sense of comfort for someone not necessarily having the best day, and that’s a privilege that I don’t take for granted.”

Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to serving our community. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

🚨EMT of the Year🚨

Please join us in congratulating EMT Tyler Henderson, our EMT of the Year!

Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office, EMT Henderson volunteered with DBEMS, beginning a journey in EMS that has grown into a career centered around service, teamwork, and supporting others. One of the things he values most about working here is the vast area we cover. From the city streets to the hill towns, every day brings something different and provides new opportunities to learn and grow as a provider.

One of EMT Henderson’s most rewarding accomplishments has been serving on the Peer Team across three divisions within the Sheriff’s Office. He has become an incredible asset to our growing peer support program, always willing to help his coworkers through difficult situations or lend a hand to new hires learning the job, even if it’s something as simple as teaching them how to read a map. No matter the circumstance, he goes the extra mile without hesitation and is always there when someone needs support.

EMT Henderson shared that EMS was never something he originally planned on doing, but it became a calling where he could help others in any way he could. That dedication, compassion, and willingness to serve both the public and his coworkers are exactly what make him so deserving of this recognition.

Congratulations, EMT Henderson, and thank you for the positive impact you make every single day.

Provider Spotlight

Please join us in recognizing EMT M. Ellis for her dedication, compassion, and commitment to EMS.

EMT Ellis has been a certified EMT since the age of 17, beginning her journey volunteering with Cobleskill Rescue Squad and working as an EMT at Cooperstown Dreams Park. Since joining our division, she has continued to grow into a confident and skilled provider who consistently puts her patients first.

She describes the most unique part of working here as the culture that makes the division feel like a second family. From teaching new techniques to helping build interpersonal skills, she values the way growth is encouraged and supported among coworkers.

One of her greatest accomplishments has been developing confidence in her abilities through the guidance of quality preceptors during her paramedic internship and the support of knowledgeable colleagues while working as an EMT. Professionally, she has grown in her patient assessments, treatment planning, and communication with patients during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Beyond her clinical skills, EMT Ellis is always willing to help a coworker and consistently goes the extra mile to support new hires as they learn and grow within the division. Her positive attitude, teamwork, and dedication to others do not go unnoticed.

When asked “Why EMS?” she shared that EMS is about far more than “load and go.” It is about caring for patients during vulnerable moments, understanding both their medical needs and their environment, and helping begin the process of getting them the care they need. She also believes EMS is a career where you never stop learning, growing, and improving through every patient, partner, nurse, and doctor you encounter.

Thank you, EMT Ellis, for your hard work, compassion, and dedication to serving our community.

🚨Provider Spotlight🚨

This EMS Week, we are proud to recognize Paramedic Davie for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to improving EMS for both providers and patients alike.

Paramedic Davie began his EMS career at Five Quad while attending UAlbany, and since joining the Sheriff’s Office, he has continued to grow into a respected clinician and leader. He believes one of the most unique aspects of the Sheriff’s Office is its role as a support agency, stepping in when volunteer and surrounding agencies need assistance. He recognizes the importance of that mission and believes this agency can serve as a model for county EMS systems in the future.

One of his most rewarding moments came earlier this year during a cardiac arrest call that resulted in a patient walking out of the hospital days later. Through strong leadership, organized teamwork, and sharp clinical decision-making, he identified Torsades, directed magnesium administration, and adjusted care based on team recommendations to help achieve a successful outcome.

Professionally, Paramedic Davie has continued to take on more responsibility while learning the inner workings of EMS and leading by example. He has also been instrumental within the union, working collaboratively with both leadership and membership to address issues, advocate for providers, and help move the profession forward.

Although EMS was originally intended to be a stepping stone into medicine, he found a true passion for the profession and for helping others, not only patients, but also his coworkers. His dedication to creating solutions, supporting providers, and building a better system reflects the very best of EMS.

Thank you, Paramedic Davie, for your professionalism, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the community and your fellow providers.

🚨Provider Spotlight🚨

We’d like to recognize EMT Enides for his growth, dedication, and commitment to patient care.

EMT Enides came into EMS with no prior experience, stepping into a demanding field with the goal of making a direct, positive impact on people’s lives. From day one, that motivation has been clear in the way he approaches his work and continues to develop as a provider.

One of the most unique aspects of working here, according to EMT Enides, has been the ability to serve a wide range of communities with varying demographics while also maintaining a strong connection with our partner agency, DBEMS. That regional collaboration has helped shape his understanding of prehospital care and strengthened his approach on every call.

Since joining the service, EMT Enides has experienced meaningful professional growth, crediting much of that development to the knowledgeable and skilled EMTs and paramedics he works alongside. That mentorship and teamwork have played a key role in his progression.

A standout moment in his career so far came during a call last summer involving an MVA in Westerlo, where his crew’s efforts resulted in the patient being life-flighted from the scene. For that call, he was awarded the “life-saver” pin—an accomplishment that reflects both his dedication and the impact of his work.

Even more impressive has been the transformation we’ve seen in EMT Enides over time. He has improved drastically not only in his clinical skill set, but also in his confidence as a provider, stepping into calls with greater assurance and growing trust in his own abilities.

When asked why EMS, his answer speaks for itself: he chose this career because he wanted to directly help people in a meaningful way, and believes there is no other field that offers the same daily opportunity to make that difference.

We are proud to have EMT Enides on the team and look forward to seeing his continued growth in the years ahead.

Today marks the start of EMS Week 2026, and this year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” is a reminder that strong providers build stronger communities.

As we recognize Sunday’s focus on Health, Resilience, and Wellness, we are proud of the steps we’ve taken to better support the people who answer the call every day. Within the last year, we incorporated mental health and resilience training into our onboarding process to help ensure our newest members begin their careers with the tools and support needed to navigate the unique challenges of this profession.

We are also proud to have a multidisciplinary Peer Support Team made up of telecommunicators, deputies, corrections staff, and EMS providers. By bringing together professionals from across public safety, we are creating a network of people who understand firsthand the realities of this work and are committed to supporting one another.

As part of Cohort 3 of the CARES UP grant program, we continue working to expand wellness initiatives, strengthen peer support, and improve access to resources for our members. We know there is still more work to do, but every step we take toward improving provider wellness helps our personnel better serve, support, and show up for the communities that rely on us every day.

Today, in between calls and documentation, crews were able to take a brief moment of reprieve through yoga, painting, and board games. Small moments of connection and reset can make a meaningful difference, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make those opportunities possible.

Happy EMS Week, and thank you to all EMS professionals for your compassion, resilience, and dedication.
