The Village of Voorheesville

The Village of Voorheesville Voorheesville, NY is a small village of fewer than 3,000 residents located in the Town of New Scotland

The Village of Voorheesville was incorporated in 1899 and named after Alonzo Voorhees who built a house overlooking the railroad junction around 1867. The intersecting railroads in the center of town continues to be a popular spot to watch the trains.

Brush pickup will NOW run through FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2. After that date, please refrain from placing large limbs or brush at the curb.

The Village DPW collects brush placed at the roadside curb as their schedule allows. This includes bagged lawn debris, but please ensure bags weigh no more than 40 pounds. If rain is expected or clippings are wet, double‑bag to prevent tearing.

During October, DPW will continue to collect small bundles of sticks tied together and no longer than 3 feet. Unless a major storm event occurs, there will be NO further large‑limb pickup after October 2.

Portable basketball hoops must be moved out of the street before October 5. If a hoop blocks the roadway, crews will not be able to pick up leaves at that location.

Beginning October 5, 2026:

DPW will switch to heavy equipment for collecting leaves raked to the curb. Please rake leaves to the curb, not into the street or onto sidewalks.

To protect our leaf vacuum and maintain efficient service, keep rocks and other debris out of leaf piles. If possible, coordinate with your neighbors and rake on the same day to reduce repeated trips through the same areas; if you notice your neighbor raking, this is an ideal time to finish your yard as well.

Leaf collection, whether raked or bagged, will continue until the first snowfall.

For more information, contact Brett Hotaling, DPW Superintendent, at 518‑765‑4512.

UPDATE:
Mountainview and Gray Lane water users:
A boil water advisory has been issued. The water will be tested over the next 48 hours and results will be posted.
NOTE: This advisory is limited to MOUNTAINVIEW and GRAY LANE water users.

BOIL WATER NOTICE

BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING
Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using. Or use
bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or
bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and
preparing food until further notice.

This Boil Water Notice applies to MOUNTAINVIEW STREET AND GRAY LANE.

What happened?
Starting on September 22, 2026 the water system had the following problem:
A watermain break affecting the residences on Mountainview St and Gray Lane.

This problem indicates that harmful microbes may be present in your drinking water. Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms and may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. But these symptoms are not just caused by microbes in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you should seek medical advice.

What is being done?
Village staff are working to restore service by fixing the watermain break and sampling the water to verify it is safe to consume. It is likely that you will need to boil water for the next 2 days until the problem is fixed. You will be informed when tests show that you no longer need to boil your water.

For more information, please contact:
Brett Hotaling of the Village of Voorheesville at 518-765-4512.
or the Albany County Health Department at 518-447-4620.

Please share this information with other people who drink this water, especially anyone who may not get this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

The Village of Voorheesville extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Albany County Legislature, the Albany County Parks and Recreation Department, and the Albany County Executive Office for awarding $15,000 through the 2025 Parks and Playground Grant. Thanks to your generous support, Scotch Pine Park has received meaningful upgrades that bring new life to this small but important neighborhood space.

The new interactive panels foster discovery, attention, and auditory awareness while encouraging children to socialize, participate, and imagine. They also help strengthen fine motor skills, eye‑hand coordination, rhythm, and movement. The Inchwood Climber introduces natural elements that blend beautifully with the park’s setting, enhancing both play and the connection to the outdoors.
For the 166 residents of the Scotch Pine neighborhood, this park is an essential pocket of nature and recreation. Your investment has made a lasting impact, and we are truly grateful for your continued commitment to improving local parks and enriching community spaces.
