Summer 2026 wrapped up our third year of hosting Eco Hero Sustainability Summer Camp partnering with the City of Orinda - Local Government - Town of Danville, CA and City of Walnut Creek - City Hall to create a fun and engaging experience to immerse kids into composting, healthy soils, growing healthy food, recycling, waste prevention, and reuse - to steward the next generation of eco leaders! We hope these every day lessons will grow with them as they get older and spread into their households, schools, and communities.

And, RecycleSmart and the City of Orinda were awarded the statewide 2025 Award of Excellence in Innovation for Eco Hero Sustainability Camp from the California Parks and Recreation Society! ⭐️

Food Shift and its executive director, Yuka Nagashima, are dedicated to building a more equitable, regenerative and inclusive food system in Contra Costa County. Winning a 2025 Leadership in Sustainability Award is one part of a broader effort to feed those in need while simultaneously reducing waste.

Sustainable Contra Costa 2026 Sustainability Awards Gala is coming up to honor this year’s winners on September 16th in Pleasant Hill.
