Severe thunderstorms will be possible over parts of central and eastern North Dakota on Thursday, with development possible in the morning into the afternoon. Ping pong size hail and wind gusts to 60 mph will be possible.

A warming trend is expected through the end of the week, with highs mainly in the 80s today, warming into the mid 90s in much of western and south central North Dakota by Friday. Warm weather will continue into the first part of the weekend before it cools off late in the weekend and early next week. There will be low to medium chances of showers and thunderstorms the next few days. Medium to high chances of showers and storms return to the forecast Sunday through Tuesday.

Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this evening into tonight, especially over western North Dakota where a Level 1 of 5 severe thunderstorm risk exists. The main threats with any isolated severe thunderstorms that are able to develop will be large hail up to around quarter size and damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. A low chance of a strong or severe thunderstorm will spread eastward and continue across central North Dakota tonight, even outside the Level 1 risk area. We don't expect many storms this evening or tonight due to a warm layer of air called a "cap" that will exist above the ground, but if isolated storms form, they could become severe.
