Investment in women’s sports is key to uplifting our young girls as they participate in extracurricular activities.

When young people are engaged in activities it helps them thrive and learn! Not only does it impact their physical and mental well being but it helps create discipline in your life and aids in developing leadership skills on the court and off.

Standing beside Monumental Sports Network, DC Public Schools, and Under Armour for the Middle School Girls Sports Initiative to bring sports equipment and gear to DCPS middle school girls, I’m excited to see the fruit of this partnership.

25 years later the collective memory of September 11 and the days after has not faded. The 2,977 individuals that lost their lives and years later the number of those affected is much, much higher.

As always, but even more so today, we remember those that were lost and hold them in our hearts.

Ward 7 currently has the highest rates of senior isolation and health disparities in the District, with older adults (65+) making up approximately 14% of its population. The Greater Washington Urban League aims to address this with their Ward 7 Senior Lunchtime Mix and Mingle Series.

Yesterday, I was happy to join them at Marvin Gaye Park, where they fostered a space for fellowship and entertainment.

Their Mix and Mingle series has brought together more than 75 seniors each week throughout August providing nutritious meals, health resources, and meaningful engagement.

Marion Barry’s Summer Youth Employment Program is a rewarding opportunity for District youths. This summer Mayor’s Office of Racial Equity brought on interns for the 4th yr in a row. COH staffers Marcia Huff, Deputy Committee Director, and Rebecca Cooper, Health Policy Legislative Advisor, met with the team of interns and aided in their policy research.

As a history buff and a lover of theatre, today’s visit to the National Theatre’s archives was a real treat.

Standing since 1835, the National Theatre is a treasure trove of not only theatre but DC history.

Did you know that shows as West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, and Mean Girls were first shown here? Or that its first integrated performance was in the 1930s?

Thank you to Chief Executive Officer Beryl Jolly and Director of Education & Community Programs Jared Strange for welcoming me into the theatre’s archives.
