Wellsburg Police Department Executes Search Warrant, One Arrested, K9 Utilized

On August 5, 2026, officers with the Wellsburg Police Department, assisted by deputies from the Brooke County Sheriff's Office, executed a search warrant at a residence within the City of Wellsburg.

Upon entering the residence, officers located one individual, who was taken into custody without incident. Following an initial search of the residence, Wellsburg Police Department K9 Kimber was deployed to conduct a building search for the presence of illegal narcotics.

As a result of the search, officers located suspected illegal narcotics, digital scales, and packaging materials commonly associated with the distribution of controlled substances.

The occupant of the residence was charged with one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute, in violation of West Virginia Code § 60A-4-401(a).

The Wellsburg Police Department would like to thank the Brooke County Sheriff's Office for their assistance and partnership in obtaining and executing this search warrant. Their support was instrumental in the successful completion of this investigation.

All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Please be advised that no street parking will be permitted from 6th Street through 27th Street between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. to accommodate the parade.

Any vehicles parked along the parade route during these hours are subject to being towed at the owner's expense.

The Wellsburg Police Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to Sunset Lake Window Tinting for generously installing 20% ceramic window tint on our K9 cruiser.

With the high temperatures we experience during the summer, this upgrade will help reduce heat inside the vehicle and provide a more comfortable environment for K9 Kimber while on duty. We truly appreciate your support of our department and your contribution to the safety and well-being of our K9 partner. Thank you for your generosity and support of our community!

The shirts from the fundraiser are in! There was an issue getting a size of hoodie which caused the delay. You can pick your apparel from the Brooke County Sheriff's Office on Monday from 1-6. Additional dates and times will be posted soon. Thank you again to everyone who has supported the process to get K9 Kimber.

Wellsburg Police Department K9 Activity
On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, K9 Kimber was deployed during a traffic stop in the 900 block of Commerce Street. Officers suspected the vehicle may have contained illegal narcotics and requested K9 Kimber conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle.
During the sniff, K9 Kimber gave a positive alert indicating the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a small amount of crystal methamphetamine. The driver was taken into custody and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Wellsburg Police Department is proud to announce the addition of its newest K-9 team member, Kimber, a one-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer. Kimber will serve as a single-purpose narcotics detection and tracking K-9, providing valuable support to the department's law enforcement operations and public safety mission.

Over the past four weeks, Patrolman Caleb Minger has completed extensive K-9 handler training with Kimber at Tri-State Canine. Upon successful completion of the program, the K-9 team earned certification through OPOTA, demonstrating proficiency in narcotics detection and tracking.

Kimber's addition to the Wellsburg Police Department enhances the department's ability to combat illegal narcotics activity, assist in locating missing or endangered persons, and support law enforcement operations throughout the community. The department is excited to have Kimber join its team and looks forward to the positive impact she will have in serving and protecting the citizens of Wellsburg.

The Wellsburg Police Department would also like to express its sincere appreciation to the many businesses, organizations, and community members who generously donated to help make this program possible.
