Bond FAQ Friday Episode #8 is here and this week we are talking about something every family cares deeply about. 🏫 Safety.
And not just locks and cameras but healthy air, natural light, a building that does not break down in the middle of a school day, and a campus that is secure and welcoming at the same time.
A few things that might surprise you about Wenatchee High School:
🚪 112 exterior doors. Every one a potential entry point that has to be monitored and secured. A modern school is not designed this way.
🪟 Many classrooms have no windows. Research consistently shows students in classrooms with natural light progress measurably faster in reading and math and have better attendance and well-being.
🌫️ Air systems that cannot handle wildfire smoke or extreme heat. Last fall air quality monitors showed unhealthy smoke inside the building. Classes were canceled. Students went home sick. This year three HVAC units failed the day before school started leaving 25 classrooms without cooling.
If the bond is approved by voters on November 3rd, the new WHS would have a secure consolidated entry, windows and natural light in every classroom, and modern air systems built for today's climate a campus designed for the safety, health, and academic success of every student.
