On Friday morning, the West Babylon Volunteer Fire Department responded to our 2,500th incident this year.

The milestone was immediately followed by an action packed weekend, which included:

🔥A motor vehicle collision with reported entrapment.

🔥 A reported structure fire.

🔥 A mutual aid for a working fire to the Lindenhurst Fire Department.

🔥 A mutual aid for a water rescue to the the Babylon Fire Department.

🔥🔥🔥 And nearly 40 other fire and emergency medical related emergencies!

We thank our members for their ongoing dedication in continuing to answer the call for our neighbors in need!

Wishing all of our West Babylon students, teachers, staff, and families a safe and successful 2026–2027 school year! 📚✏️🚌

As everyone gets back into the school routine, please remember to slow down and stay alert—especially during morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, and around school bus stops.

🛑 Always obey school bus stop signs and flashing red lights.
🚸 Watch carefully for children crossing the street.
🚗 Give yourself a little extra time and drive with patience.

Earlier this month, members of the West Babylon Volunteer Fire Department’s Company 6 stopped by Hassell Auto Body to support the West Babylon PAL Football League Car Wash!

Engine 1-9-6 joined in on the fun, giving some of the kids a pretty big vehicle to wash while helping support a great local program.

Being part of the fire department means more than responding when the alarm sounds. We’re proud to support the organizations, teams, and families that make West Babylon such a great community.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the PAL Football League!

🔥As July came to a close, Engine 1-9-6 responded to assist neighboring departments at two working residential structure fires.

🚒 On July 26, Engine 1-9-6 responded to Wyandanch to assist at a working fire. Just four days later, on July 30, the engine was back on the road, responding to East Farmingdale for another working fire.

Our volunteer firefighters train year-round so they’re prepared to work alongside our neighboring departments when additional manpower and resources are needed.

On Sunday morning, members of our Juniors Brigade participated in a hands on forcible entry training drill!

Working with their directors and the members of Company 3, the juniors learned the basics of forcible entry tools and techniques.

Regular drills such as Sunday’s drill give the juniors both an inside look at the work of a firefighter, and also help prepare them for fire school upon crossing over into the department as probationary member!

Children ages of 11 and 17 that reside in the West Babylon Fire District can join our Junior firefighter program and begin the training to develop the skills required to be a Firefighter or EMT. Learn more today at https://www.westbabylonfd.org/junior_members_wanted.php

An action-packed weekend for your West Babylon Volunteer Fire Department! 🔥🚒🧯🚑

Beginning with a car fire on Friday night, the West Babylon Fire Department responded to roughly 30 calls for service this weekend, including:

🔥 Two structure fires, with Engine 1-9-3 arriving first due for an exterior porch fire on Saturday and Engine 1-9-8 arriving first due for an electrical fire on Sunday night.

🚒 Engine 1-9-6 provided standby coverage for our friends at the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, where they responded to a fire alarm, motor vehicle collision involving a structure, and a smoke investigation.

🧯One car fire, handled by the members of Company 3 and Company 4 on Friday evening.

🚗 Four motor vehicle accidents - including an early morning accident just before 7:00am this morning.

🚑 And roughly 20 emergency medical calls!

A Busy Weekend on the Water 🌊🚒

This weekend, the West Babylon Volunteer Fire Department Marine Unit responded to two water rescue incidents in the Great South Bay.

On Saturday, members responded to an incident in the waters off Oak Beach, followed by another marine response on Sunday in the vicinity of Hemlock Cove. In addition, many of our neighboring departments responded to a fatal marine accident at Captree State Park on Friday night.

These incidents are a reminder that our volunteers stand ready to respond wherever an emergency may occur — on land or on the water.

As summer continues, we remind everyone enjoying the water to boat responsibly, wear a life jacket, keep proper safety equipment aboard, and always remain aware of changing weather and water conditions.
