As we approach the start of the new academic year next week, we remind everyone to use extra caution when driving through the Elementary School Zone.

The speed limit is 15 mph when the lights are flashing. Law enforcement officers will be present to enforce all posted speed limits in the school zone. Speeding in a school zone may result in fines and, if the speed limit is exceeded by 15 mph or more, possible jail time.

West Virginia law also prohibits passing a stopped school bus when its stop arm is extended. Violations may result in fines, possible jail time, and a 60-day driver's license suspension.

Please stay alert, slow down, and help keep our students, families, and staff safe. Let us work together to ensure a safe and successful academic year!

PSA, The Route has changed. This Event will not take place.

On July 1st, 2026, the Town of West Liberty is honored to be a part of the Relay for America, a cross-country running event destined for Washington D.C., arriving on July 4th to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary. The Relay for America, who aims to unite America one mile at a time, has extended an invitation to Mayor Graham to join the procession on foot through town, Escorted by the West Liberty Police Department. The event is expected to take place between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM, and the community is encouraged to participate and observe.
