Traffic Alert

Traffic lines are down near 156th Street and Westfield Boulevard. Power lines were struck by a passing vehicle, and the lines down have impacted a power outage to the larger area of 156th Street to 146th Street, including the immediate commercial shopping area and intersection traffic lights. Officers are on-scene investigating the crash of the power lines being struck, as well as attempting to help divert and direct traffic throughout this larger area.

We ask that you please avoid this area if possible. We are in coordination with the appropriate companies to help restore power to the area.

City of Westfield offices will be closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day. This closure does not apply to essential public safety personnel. The City will resume normal operations on Tuesday, September 8.

Please be advised of an update on the project at 169th Street and Spring Mill Road:

TSW (Citizens Energy Group's contractor) is currently still boring through the intersection of 169th Street & Spring Mill Road, which means they will be working until 11 p.m. For those that live in this area, you may hear a significant amount of construction noise.

We will update this post once work in the area has been completed.

Centennial Road will close on Monday, August 17 for reconstruction from SR 32 to the north side of middle school limits (halfway to 186th Street). Please detour via Eagletown Road. Closure is anticipated to last through November 9. All work is weather dependent, and timelines may change.

Citizens Energy Group Water Transmission Main Update: Citizens' contractor (TSW) will start directional boring work through the 169th Street & Spring Mill Road roundabout intersection, beginning Monday, August 17. This will primarily affect pedestrian walk paths at the NW and SW corners of the intersection. In late August, work will continue east along 169th Street, through the Countryside neighborhood, all the way to Oak Ridge Road. This work will primarily occur along the south side of 169th Street but will include intermittent lane restrictions as work extends eastward. This water main installation, through Countryside, between Spring Mill Road and Oak Ridge Road is expected to last through November 25. On or after Thursday, August 20, SR 32 will shift traffic to the newly constructed south side of the roadway. SR 32 will continue to remain open for east and west traffic; however, vehicles will now travel on the newly constructed pavement on the south side of the median. This will allow the contractor room to reconstruct the remaining north side pavement. This traffic shift is weather dependent and may change. Businesses on the north side of SR 32 east of Union Street will have access via Mulberry Alley, Cherry Street, and Oak Alley.

The City of Westfield is asking residents to share their experiences and priorities through a new Age-Friendly Community Survey. The survey is open now through December 31, 2026.

The survey will help the City better understand how well Westfield supports residents as they age and identify opportunities to improve the community’s overall livability. Residents of all ages are encouraged to participate, especially older adults, caregivers and family members who help make decisions on behalf of an older resident.

“Westfield is growing, and the needs of our residents are changing along with it,” Mayor Scott Willis said. “This survey gives residents an opportunity to tell us what is working well, where challenges remain and how we can continue building a community where people can live, stay connected and succeed at every stage of life.”

According to Westfield’s recently completed special census, the percentage of residents aged 55 and older has continued to increase. Residents aged 55 and older represented 19.5% of the city’s population in 2010 and has grown to 28.6% based on the 2025 Special Census.

The Age-Friendly Community Survey asks residents to provide feedback on several areas that affect quality of life, including:
• Housing options and accessibility
• Parks, sidewalks, public spaces, and community buildings
• Transportation, walkability, and parking
• Health care, wellness programs, and community support services
• Social activities, volunteer opportunities, and civic participation
• Access to local news, programs, and community information

Survey results will help the City establish a baseline for how well Westfield currently meets the needs of older residents. The information will also help identify service gaps, prioritize future programs and investments, support funding decisions, and measure progress over time.

The survey is based on principles developed through the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, which encourages communities to plan for residents of all ages and abilities. Age-friendly planning can include improvements such as safer crossings, accessible public spaces, housing choices, transportation options, health and wellness resources, and opportunities for residents to remain active and connected. Individual responses will remain anonymous, and survey results will be reviewed in summary form.
