One part of the training was hauling and flowing water, here Westport Chief Stacey Hutchison watches as a future firefighter learns proper nozzle handling.

I have upgraded the fire danger to HIGH.

Please use extra caution with any fires or flammable material. It would be better to hold off for more favorable conditions.

Fortunately, this afternoon's storm didn't do much damage to the island, but it did bring one tree down taking wires down with it. We put up traffic cones as a warning and alerted CMP that a dead end road was totally blocked. When we checked on it later this evening, we found the cones had been moved.
This is irresponsible and dangerous!! Cones are there for a reason - to warn people of a hazard. You put yourself and others at risk when you move them. CMP crews are the ONLY ones that can determine if lines are safe or not. Do NOT assume that because they are down or that there is no power in the area it is ok. It could be a fatal mistake!

6/6 - Responded to report of a car accident north of Doggett Rd. Arrived on scene to find a car on the north end of a field with several individuals standing near the car. Wiscasset EMS was on scene where they were evaluated and release with minor injuries. It appears they were headed north and lost control just after Doggett Rd. They sideswiped a telephone pole hard enough to rip off the driver side front wheel and take the electrical service off the house it was connected to. The car then traveled approx 100 yards or so across the field hitting a group of birch trees. To say this was inches away from being a possible tragedy is an understatement.
