Congratulations to Ed Geisel Jr. on his retirement! Brother Geisel served the Wheeling Fire Department for 20 years, retiring as Captain at Station 9.

A Marine veteran, Ed took great pride in training new candidates at Headquarters and preparing the next generation of firefighters. He was also a dedicated member of the Honor Guard and was instrumental in creating the commendation and awards program we use today to recognize the achievements of our members.

The Geisel name has been part of the Wheeling Fire Department for nearly 50 years, with several members of the family serving over the years. That tradition includes retired Ed Geisel Sr. and continues today with Ed Jr.’s son, Kody, who serves as a Lieutenant on Engine 2.

Congratulations, Brother Geisel, and thank you for 20 years of dedicated service. Enjoy your well-earned retirement!

Retirees Breakfast is always a hit on the first Saturday of every month. Firehouse breakfasts have long been a weekend and holiday tradition.

The only difference now? Our retirees can enjoy a second helping without worrying about a box dropping and having to run out the door.

Fair pay isn’t a perk, it’s the law.

Congratulations to our brothers in Clarksburg on reaching an agreement to resolve a long-standing compensation issue.

CLARKSBURG — The City of Clarksburg has agreed to a $1.25 million settlement over litigation alleging it didn't pay firefighters properly.

Emergency! helped America see a new era of firefighting — where firefighters weren’t just responding to emergencies, they were bringing lifesaving medical care with them.

While Hollywood was showing firefighter-paramedics on TV, Wheeling firefighters were making it a reality.

This photo from 1977 shows Dick Lemery, one of our first paramedics, teaching CPR and helping build the foundation of the EMS system we have today.

The equipment has changed, but the mission hasn’t: saving lives.
