HumanKind Ministries

HumanKind Ministries Providing shelter, affordable housing and supportive services to those in Wichita who need them most. HumanKind recognizes the inherent value of each person.

We serve the most vulnerable with compassion and kindness and, in doing so, strengthen the entire community. HumanKind operates three homeless shelters in Wichita. The Inn, our year-round shelter for individuals, families and pets in need has been serving the Wichita community for 36 years. From November through March, HK operates Emergency Winter Shelters for men and women. We also provide 155 lo

w-cost, permanent supportive housing units to assist in the journey from homelessness to home. Residents of our apartments receive case management and life skills classes to help them adapt to life in permanent housing and break the cycle of homelessness. During the holidays, assistance is available to those living at or below the poverty level through Operation Holiday, the region's largest holiday assistance program, operating since the 1950s. In 2020 we served more than 14,000 men, women and children living in and around Wichita with food, pet food, coats, blankets, scarves, gloves and hats and toys. HumanKind depends on the kindness and generosity of its community, volunteers, and donors. For information about how to give or get involved, please visit HumanKindWichita.org.

Two years ago, Tim came to HumanKind through our Studios program carrying hope for a better future despite the challenges he faced. Through resilience, determination, and the support of case management, Tim continued taking steps forward even when the road was not easy.

Today, Tim has achieved a major milestone by finding meaningful employment and a renewed sense of purpose. His journey is a powerful reminder that supportive housing, community, and perseverance can create lasting change.

We are incredibly proud of Tim and honored to be part of his journey. 💛

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder that healing matters and no one should have to face life’s challenges alone.

At HumanKind Ministries, we believe mental wellness starts with compassion, connection, and access to support. Whether someone is navigating stress, trauma, addiction, or uncertainty, hope and help are possible.

This month, we encourage our community to check in on one another, speak openly about mental health, and remember that asking for help is a sign of strength.

You are not alone. Help is here. Hope is real.

Chris joined the HumanKind team in 2023 and immediately became a valued part of our community. He brings humor, heart, and a strong person-centered approach to everything he does. Chris genuinely cares about our mission, and he shows it every day by ensuring our apartment communities are safe, comfortable, and welcoming places to live.

Chris plays a critical role in helping our clients feel safe and at home on the HumanKind campus and was recently promoted to Maintenance Lead. Housing at HumanKind is possible because of Chris and team members like him. Our mission is to provide safe, affordable, supportive, and permanent places to call home — and Chris helps make that happen every single day.

He remains calm under pressure, communicates clearly with teammates, tenants, and the leasing office, and proactively looks for ways to improve systems and strengthen vendor relationships.

Chris, thank you for helping us welcome individuals and families home at HumanKind.

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and courage of the women who shape our HumanKind community.

We honor the incredible women who work at HumanKind, the leaders, advocates, case managers, property staff, and every team member who shows up with compassion and commitment. Your dedication strengthens our mission and creates real pathways to stability and hope.

We also celebrate the remarkable women we serve , the survivors, mothers, daughters, who have faced unimaginable hardships and continue to rise. Women rebuilding their lives. Women choosing growth. Women creating brighter futures for themselves and their children.

Every day at HumanKind, we see women supporting women through mentorship, advocacy, generosity, and partnership. Through philanthropic leadership and community involvement, women are shaping a stronger, more compassionate Wichita.

Today, we honor your resilience. We celebrate your courage. And we stand with you as you continue to rebuild, grow, and lead.

Happy International Women’s Day.
