🏫 Building Strong School Cultures

Nerida Richman, Cassidy Donnelly, Susan LaBar, and Liz Bauer attended the Conscious Discipline Institute in Las Vegas last week.

Conscious Discipline is a social-emotional learning approach that helps educators build strong relationships, create safe and supportive learning environments, and teach students important life skills such as self-regulation and problem-solving. 🧡

Thank you for representing WBSD7 and bringing new ideas back to our schools!

📸 Thank you to Susan LaBar for sharing the photo.

🎉 WMSCC Summer School wrapped up today!

Students finished the program by showcasing the creativity, critical thinking, and real-world skills they developed throughout the summer.

🏖️ Our 6th-grade students took on the challenge of planning a dream vacation with a $10,000 budget, learning how to make thoughtful financial decisions while having fun.

💡 Meanwhile, our 7th and 8th graders became entrepreneurs, developing business ideas and presenting their plans in a Shark Tank-style competition. Community members and visitors served as the “Sharks,” listening to presentations, asking questions, and casting votes to help determine the winners.

🏆 Congratulations to our top entrepreneurs:

🥇 1st Place: Aubree
🥈 2nd Place: Tatum
🥉 3rd Place: Jayton

A big thank you to our students, staff, and community members who helped make this summer learning experience a success. Great work everyone!

📸 Thanks to Assistant Principal Sarah Heise for submitting these fun photos & info.

🎓 Education, Workforce Development, and Community Growth

Superintendent Dr. Germundson, with input from Human Resources Director Judy Billehus, presented on education during yesterday's Industry & HR Roundtable Event.

🏥 Hosted at the new state-of-the-art Healthcare Education Facility at Williston State College, the event was part of Williston's Economic Development Week and brought together leaders from a variety of industries to discuss workforce trends, challenges, and opportunities.

📊 Industry updates were provided by local experts representing Agriculture, Education, Energy & Utilities, Healthcare, Finance, Retail & Hospitality, and Housing & Construction. The event also included discussions focused on human resources, hiring, and workforce development.

🎯 WBSD7 appreciates the opportunity to share how public education is preparing students for future careers and supporting the long-term workforce needs of our growing community.

🤝 Strong schools and strong communities go hand in hand.

🏫 Who remembers Webster Elementary School?

This photo, submitted by Jennifer (Willson) Henke, shows Jennifer and her sister standing in front of Webster School in 1982.

Located on the block between 5th and 6th Streets West and 7th and 8th Avenues West, Webster Elementary was one of Williston's neighborhood schools, and many longtime residents and alumni have fond memories of attending classes there.

Webster Elementary served generations of Williston students before closing in 1994 following significant water damage.

As WBSD7 prepares to open Sloulin Elementary School this fall, it seems like a fitting time to look back and celebrate some of the schools that helped shape our community over the years.

🤩 What Elementary school did you attend? What are your favorite memories of the school?

🏫 🔨 What does deferred maintenance look like in action?

🎥 In this edition of District Spotlight, Superintendent Dr. Germundson and Director of Facilities & Maintenance Kris Brurud take viewers inside the Lewis & Clark HVAC Project. Through historical "before" footage and recent construction updates, they explain how this important deferred maintenance project is modernizing critical building systems that have served the school for decades.

⭐ The project will improve heating and ventilation, increase energy efficiency, and bring more fresh air into classrooms, helping ensure students and staff have a safe, healthy, and comfortable learning environment for years to come.

Watch the video to see the transformation underway and learn how WBSD7 is investing in the long-term care of our facilities while keeping kids safe, warm, and dry.
