Officer Geesaman recently assisted a snapping turtle that had wandered into town and safely relocated it to a more suitable habitat away from traffic and other hazards.

With warmer weather upon us, residents may notice more snapping turtles moving through the area as they travel between ponds, creeks, and other bodies of water. While these animals are an important part of our local ecosystem, they can become defensive if approached too closely.

If you encounter a snapping turtle:

🐢 Give it plenty of space.
🐢 Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
🐢 Do not attempt to pick it up or handle it.
🐢 Use caution when driving, as turtles may be crossing roadways.
🐢 If possible, allow the turtle to continue in the direction it is traveling.

The York Police Department once again came up short against the Claybusters, but the outcome was a testament to just how difficult they are to beat when they’re shooting at their best. In trap shooting, opportunities are limited, and when the Claybusters are posting scores of 49 out of 50, there is virtually no margin for error.

While we would have liked a different result, we are proud of our team’s effort and competitive spirit. Congratulations to the Claybusters on an outstanding performance, and we look forward to the next opportunity to meet them on the range.

We are grateful to the Quilt Brigade for their commitment to honoring our veterans and for recognizing their service to both our country and our community.

Please join The York Police Department in thanking Sgt Shumway, Ofc Pachner, Ofc Koch, Ofc Mostrom and Ofc Wobken for receiving these quilts.
