We miss our community more than you know! Enjoy this silly video we made before the flood. We can't wait to get back to serving our patrons, and hopefully making you laugh a little every Friday.

Your generosity continues to blow us away. As of today, just about two weeks since the disastrous flood destroyed many parts of our collection and building, we've raised $46,201 toward our recovery effort!

Work is ongoing as YPL, as you may have seen in yesterday's update. Water mitigation and rebuilding is costly. Any amount you're able to give is helpful and so appreciated as we diligently work toward reopening.

Can you help us get to $50,000 this week?

You can make a donation at www.yorktownlib.org/donate. YPL is a 501(c)(3), meaning your donations are tax deductible!

We cannot thank you enough πŸ’š

Work has been ongoing at the library as we continue to recover from the devastating flash flood.

Water mitigation will likely go on most of this week. Then rebuilding plans will begin. This will include new flooring, drywall, paint, window work, etc. To put in new flooring, we will have to box up the remaining books and take down the shelving. As you can imagine, it will take coordination and time. Staff is keeping our spirits up by all the good will being sent our way from the community as well as across the state and country.

The most devastating thing about this disaster is being unable to serve our patrons. Anderson Public Library and Muncie Public Library are allowing our patrons to use their services, programs and collections. This is a great comfort to us.

Thank you for your continued support of YPL πŸ’š

We know how many of you are missing the library while we're closed. But that doesn't mean you have to miss out on the library experience altogether!

Our friends at Muncie Public Library and now Anderson Public Library both have reciprocal borrowing agreements with YPL. This means that YPL patrons can sign up for free library cards at both of these libraries.

We hope you'll check them out and see what they have to offer as you wait for YPL to get back on our feet.

We are humbled and honored to announce that thanks to you, we have now raised $25,000 for our flood recovery effort!

Every donation and every share matters. We could not navigate this incredible challenge without you. "Thank you" feels too small.

This is a big accomplishment, but we still have a long road ahead. If you would like to make a donation, please visit www.yorktownlib.org/donate πŸ’š

We want to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Mouse and Mommas on a Mission for their fundraisers supporting YPL!

Mr. Mouse is donating 10% of sales from this Saturday, August 22, to YPL.

Mommas on a Mission is donating 30% of sales from their Indiana Strong Tees to those affected by the flooding, including YPL.

Next month, the Annual Book Sale put on by Yorktown Friends Of The Library is still happening! All proceeds benefit the library!

However you support YPL, whether it's patronizing the above businesses, shopping the book sale, donating directly, or just sharing our posts, we cannot thank you enough!

Flood Damage Update and Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

Library staff and the water mitigation team have been on-site assessing the damage caused by the flood. So far, we have had to toss about 3600 books, which is heartbreaking.

We've been getting a lot of questions, so we'd like to answer a few of the most frequently asked.

❓How can I volunteer to help with cleanup?
- We appreciate the numerous offers, but we're still not ready for volunteers. Right now, we are working closely with the water mitigation team. If/when that changes, we will get the word out!

❓How can I donate books?
- Again, we appreciate the numerous offers, but we are not currently in a position to take in any materials. We expect that to change down the road, so please hang on to donations if you're able, and we will make an announcement when we're able to accept them.

❓ Will insurance cover the losses?
- Like most of you in the area, the library does not have flood insurance, because we're not technically in a floodplain. The flooding we experienced was historic and unprecedented. So, no, insurance won't cover this.

To that end, monetary donations are needed and so appreciated. If you're able to donate, you can do so at www.yorktownlib.org/donate. If you're not able to donate right now, a share goes a long way! The more visibility, the better.

We appreciate your continued support. We have a long road ahead of us, but we believe we can bounce back with your help. Thank you!
