Today, on National Overdose Awareness Day, we remember every American lost to overdose and every family devastated by addiction.

Under President Trump, overdose deaths fell 14% in 2025, including a 22% drop in fentanyl-related deaths. But our work is not finished.

We must continue supporting proven treatments while pursuing promising new approaches, including rigorous research into ibogaine.

Innovation can save lives. We must keep looking for answers.

Since 2018, foreign governments have used their censorship laws to extract $22 billion from American companies, with the European Union being the biggest offender.

Instead of being used to support American families and further American innovation, that $22 billion went to emboldening illiberal bureaucrats.

The GRANITE Act would put an end to this.

The GRANITE Act is composed of two parts:

A “Shield” to prevent foreign censorship laws from being enforced in the United States.

And a “Sword” that would allow Americans to bring lawsuits against foreign governments that impose censorship laws against them, without the cover of sovereign immunity.

This means foreign governments would have to think twice before they decide they want to censor American citizens online.

The First Amendment prevents the government from infringing on Americans’ freedom of speech.

Yet, foreign governments have decided that they have the right to target American citizens and companies for constitutionally protected speech online.

That is why I am proud to have introduced the GRANITE Act, a bill to defend our digital sovereignty and protect Americans from foreign censorship attempts.
