EPWP DISABILITY INCLUSION FRAMEWORK LAUNCH

The Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, through its flagship Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), today officially launched the EPWP Disability Inclusion Framework, reaffirming its commitment to creating meaningful work opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The launch brought together government officials, disability advocacy organisations, social partners and other stakeholders committed to advancing disability inclusion.

Insightful presentations were delivered by Mr Ernest Nyembe from Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) and Mr Ismael Akhalwaya, Chief Director: Social Sector and Non-State Sector Coordination (SSNSC), who highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships and ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully included in EPWP opportunities.

Delivering the keynote address, MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Ms. Dibolelo Mance, reaffirmed the Department's commitment to mainstreaming disability inclusion across all EPWP programmes.

She challenged the programme to increase the participation of persons with disabilities from the current 2% to 5% by December 2026, stressing that inclusion should not be treated as a compliance exercise, but as a commitment to restoring dignity, creating opportunities and leaving no one behind.

MEC MANCE LEAVES A LASTING IMPACT IN ZASTRON

TODAY|| The Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, under the leadership of MEC Dibolelo Mance, commemorated Nelson Mandela Month by dedicating more than 67 minutes of meaningful community service in Zastron, within the Mohokare Local Municipality.

This initiative honoured the legacy of former President Nelson Mandela through acts of service aimed at improving public facilities and uplifting local communities.

MEC Mance was joined by the Mayor of Mohokare Local Municipality, Cllr. Teboho Mochechepa, local councillors, officials from the Department, and EPWP participants.

As part of the programme, the Department’s Works and Maintenance Unit, supported by learners in the EPWP Artisan Development Programme, carried out renovations at Matlakeng Clinic to improve the facility’s appearance and functionality for patients and healthcare workers.

The Department also mobilised EPWP participants to undertake extensive cleaning campaigns across several public spaces in Zastron to promote a cleaner, healthier environment while encouraging community pride and environmental responsibility.

In keeping with the spirit of Ubuntu and social solidarity, the delegation also visited the Thusong Service Centre, where they spent time with vulnerable groups in the community.

Speaking during the commemoration, MEC Mance emphasised that Nelson Mandela Month is more than a symbolic observance, β€œit is a call to action that encourages every South African to make a positive difference in the lives of others.”
