📢 SUPPLIERS: STAY CSD-READY AND DON’T MISS OUT! 💼💻

KwaZulu-Natal Treasury invites suppliers to participate in the Central Supplier Database (CSD) Supplier Training Sessions, aimed at equipping suppliers with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage and maintain their CSD profiles. The CSD serves as a central source of verified supplier information for government procurement.

📅 Every Monday | 08 June – 14 December

The training will cover important topics, including:
🔹 Best practices for maintaining your CSD supplier profile;
🔹 How to respond to Requests for Quotations (RFQs) distributed via CSD; and
🔹 How to submit questions to organs of state while an RFQ is still open.

📌 Suppliers are encouraged to attend and ensure that their CSD profiles are properly maintained and that they are able to view and respond to RFQs. Don’t be left out of government procurement opportunities!

Please take note that the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) Ugu District Office has relocated to 38 Main Harding Road, Port Shepstone, effective 31 August 2026.

Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: We wish to announce that engineers have completed the jacking of Umzimkhulu River Bridge. The bridge will be reopened at 06h00 tomorrow morning, on Monday, 24 August 2026.

Once again we thank the people of Ugu District and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality in particular for walking with us on this journey.

As we stated in the past, working together, we will overcome all challenges and eventually usher in a new era of prosperity.

The contractor and workers in particular have doubled their efforts as guided by the work acceleration plan.

I assigned the Head of the Department Zibusiso Dlamini to ensure adherence to the following decisive measures:

1. Performance-Driven Contractor Management – Extra working hours where necessary. For instance, before the snowfall, workers worked extra hours in anticipation of disruption caused by snowfall and prolonged rainfall.
2. Performance-Reviews - Further intensifying contract performance reviews, with corrective measures and support interventions where necessary to improve productivity.
3. On-Site Oversight Intensification – monitoring day-to-day progress and resolving technical challenges in real time.
4. Stakeholder and Community Engagement—Increasing transparency by providing regular progress updates to communities, local leadership, and industry stakeholders to ensure shared ownership of the project’s success.
5. Accelerated Payment Resolution – Intensifying the implementation of the digital invoice-payment and tracking system. This is aimed at ensuring that contractors receive funds without undue delays.

We have set the target of September 2026, for the completion of this important work.

Once complete, the repaired bridge will significantly improve travel times, road safety, and access to economic opportunities.

Critically, as we count down to October, the Transport Month, we want residents, business communities, and visitors to enjoy free movement after months of inconvenience and isolation as a result of ongoing repairs and rehabilitation.

⚡ SERVICE DELIVERY UPDATE: POWER OUTAGE AFFECTING PARTS OF OSLO BEACH ⚡

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality wishes to inform affected residents and members of the public that it is aware of the current power outage affecting parts of Oslo Beach.

🔧 Our technical teams are attending to the matter and have identified the cause of the power failure. The RNM Team is currently gathering all the necessary tools, equipment and spares required to undertake the repairs and restore electricity supply as quickly as possible.

📍 Affected areas include:
• Commercial Road
• Marine Drive
• Hillside Crescent
• Kinsey Drive

The Municipality understands the inconvenience caused by this interruption and sincerely apologises to all affected customers for the disruption. Residents are requested to remain patient and cooperate with the technical teams while restoration efforts are underway.

Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: As announced a week ago, during our unannounced visit and inspection of the repairs of Umzimkhulu River Bridge, we are accelerating our work to ensure the bridge re-opening in September 2026.

The acceleration measures include extending working hours incorporating weekend work.

For instance, the weekend before the snowfall, the team worked extra hours in anticipation of any delays caused by a severe weather pattern.

At this stage, we wish to announce the closure and jacking of the bridge from 5am on 19 August to 5pm on Saturday, 22 August.

The jacking will enable engineers to continue with structural repairs that will reinstate the bridge’s durability to 25 years and more.

We are encouraged by co-operation from key stakeholders such as the Mayor of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, Cllr Zodwa Mzindle, the whole council, Deputy Chair of Ugu District Community Policing Forum Selvan Chetty, members of the forum, SA National Taxi Council, ratepayers associations, local businesses, residents and many more other stakeholders to many to mention.

Last year on 17 March 2025, we announced the official closure of the bridge.

This marked the beginning of the emergency repairs and rehabilitation of Umzimkhulu River Bridge, which was built in 1958.

The bridge was built using the old caisson construction system.

Critically, every three years (instead of five years), our team of engineers continuously uses specialized bridge management software and visual technical evaluations to monitor infrastructure integrity in more than 3 822 bridges and more than 2,000 culverts.
