The City of Tshwane, through the Roads and Transport Department, will on
Saturday, 3 October 2026 host the 2026 Elders Flight at Wonderboom National Airport, as part of the opening of the City’s October Transport Month programme.
More than 500 senior citizens will gather at Wonderboom for a special day of aviation, recognition and celebration, with many getting the opportunity to fly for the first time.
The programme will include an official opening, aviation displays, exposure flights for the elders and a dedicated ceremony honouring military veterans.
The event takes on added significance as Wonderboom National Airport celebrates
its 90th anniversary this year.

Today, MMC Mogale met with contractors in groups to assess progress on key projects across Soshanguve, Winterveldt and Mabopane.

MMC Cllr Tlangi Mogale is on the ground in Nellmapius Ext. 4, Mamelodi, together with the Ward Councillor and the Emergency and Disaster Management teams, assisting families affected by the hailstorms and clearing affected roads to restore safe access.

With a Level 2 storm warning in place and further heavy rain expected tonight, residents are urged to remain indoors where possible and exercise caution.

The TLB has arrived on site and is clearing the hail from the road to restore access and ensure safe passage for motorists. MMC Mogale is on site overseeing the response and coordinating efforts to clear the affected area.

MMC Mogale, together with Disaster Management teams, visited areas affected by the heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms that caused a disaster in the Nellmapius Ext 4 area to assess the situation on the ground and coordinate the necessary response.

The focus is on responding to affected communities, addressing immediate risks and ensuring that the relevant municipal teams are on the ground.

MMC Mogale is in Mamelodi providing an update on the road closure affecting traffic flow along Tsamaya Road, Maphala Drive and Watloo Drive.

The closure is due to ongoing BRT construction works. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes which are Boundary Road and Dr Ribero Road. We apologise for the inconvenience.
