Chongwe Municipal Council has continued its Special Rates Promotion Exercise by bringing its mobile office services closer to residents and businesses at Asado Shopping Complex and Waterfalls Mall, making it easier for ratepayers to access council services and settle their outstanding rates, licencing and building permissions.

The mobile office team is on-site to assist members of the public with rate payments, account inquiries, and other customer service needs as part of the council's ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and increase convenience for residents.

Speaking on the initiative, council's task force team encourages ratepayers to take advantage of the promotional discounts currently being offered to those who clear their outstanding rates in full during the promotion period.

Under the promotion, commercial ratepayers receive a 15 percent discount, while residential ratepayers enjoy a 10 percent discount on their outstanding rates when payment is made in full.

To further enhance accessibility, the council has also provided a convenient digital payment option through the *4466 # USSD platform. Ratepayers can make payments by selecting Option 6 โ€“ Government Services, choosing Option 2, typing โ€œChongweโ€, selecting their preferred service, entering the payment amount, and choosing a payment method.

The Special Rates Promotion Exercise forms part of Chongwe Municipal Council's commitment to improving revenue collection while bringing essential services closer to the people. Residents and business owners are encouraged to visit the mobile offices at Asado Shopping Complex and Waterfalls Mall and take advantage of the discounts before the promotion ends.

Chongwe Municipal Council has started a verification exercise for beneficiaries under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Skills Development Programme. The exercise is aimed at monitoring the progress of beneficiaries and ensuring that public resources are being used effectively.

The team, comprising the Social Economic Planner, Internal Auditor, and Accountant, visited selected skills development institutions to verify beneficiary enrolment, assess learning conditions, and interact with students benefiting from the programme.

Speaking during the exercise, Chongwe Municipal Council Social Economic Planner, Mr. Ephraim Chabinga, said the activity is an important part of monitoring and evaluating CDF programmes.

"This verification exercise helps the Council confirm that beneficiaries are actively attending their training and benefiting from the programme. It is also an important accountability measure that ensures CDF resources are reaching the intended beneficiaries and helping to empower the people of Chongwe through skills development," he said.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Zambia for giving them an opportunity to acquire valuable skills through the CDF Skills Development Programme. They said the sponsorship has eased the financial burden on their families and enabled them to pursue training that will improve their chances of employment and self-reliance in the future.

The Local Authority remains committed to ensuring the successful implementation of CDF programmes through regular monitoring and engagement with beneficiaries so that communities can fully benefit from government development initiative

Outdoor play remains a critical aspect of a child's growth and well-being, fostering creativity, confidence, teamwork and healthy lifestyles. By bringing play-based activities directly into communities, the Council aims to create supportive environments where children can learn, explore and thrive.

Chongwe Municipal Council (CMC) is pleased to announce the approval of Property Rates Remission (Reduction) measures for the 2026 Financial Year.

At its First Ordinary Full Council Meeting held on Friday, 8th May 2026 under Minute No. C/51/05/26, the Council approved remission of property rates for all ratepayers pursuant to Section 22 of the Rating Act No. 21 of 2018 as follows:

1. 15% remission on commercial, hospitality, industrial, institutional, and mining properties.
2. 10% remission on residential properties.

These remissions have already been applied to all properties in the Councilโ€™s database. The 2026 property rates bill now reflect the reduced amounts.

This decision follows pronouncements by The President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, regarding high property rates charged by some local authorities. It also aligns with guidance issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to provide relief to ratepayers while safeguarding the financial sustainability of councils.

Important Note: These remissions shall not apply to ratepayers who have already been granted relief equal to or exceeding the above percentages.

Chongwe Municipal Council remains committed to fairness, transparency, and improved service delivery while supporting property owners in fulfilling their obligations.

CHONGWE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL VERIFIES SECONDARY SCHOOL BURSARY BENEFICIARIES.

Chongwe- 30th May,2026

Chongwe Municipal Council has commenced the verification exercise for secondary school bursary beneficiaries under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in a move aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the distribution of educational support.

The verification team, comprising officers from the Socio-Economic Planning Unit, Internal Audit Department and Finance Department, has been visiting various secondary schools across the district to confirm the number of pupils currently enrolled in boarding schools and benefiting from the bursary programme.

Today, the team conducted verification exercises at Mulalika Secondary School,Mikango Secondary School and Katoba Secondary School.

The exercise is intended to ensure that deserving learners continue to benefit from the bursary support while promoting proper utilization of public resources under the CDF programme.

Through the secondary school bursary initiative, many vulnerable and underprivileged learners in Chongwe District have been given an opportunity to access quality education without the burden of school fees.

The Constituency Development Fund continues to play a significant role in transforming communities through investments in education, infrastructure, skills development and other community-based projects aimed at improving peopleโ€™s livelihoods.

Chongwe Municipal Council remains committed to ensuring that CDF resources reach the intended beneficiaries and contribute positively to the social and economic development of the district.

Chongwe Municipal Council Town Clerk, Mr. Damson Mukwato, together with the Director of Engineering Services Eng. Edward Banda, visited Chitentabunga Village in Manyika Ward to inspect the ongoing construction of a Constituency Development Fund(CDF) funded road.

Speaking during the inspection, Mr. Mukwato said the Council remains committed to taking development to all communities across the district. He explained that improved road networks are important for enhancing access to essential services and improving the lives of local people.

He further stressed the importance of professionalism, transparency and accountability in the implementation of CDF projects so that communities can fully benefit from government resources.

Headman Chitentabunga expressed gratitude for the new road, saying the old road had been heavily encroached on by local farming activities, making movement difficult for the community.

The traditional leader said the new road will restore order and dignity to the area by improving access to schools, hospitals and other social services. He added that the road will also make it easier for farmers to transport their produce to markets.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Angela Bwalya of Mutubisha Village said the community is happy and thankful to finally have a reliable road that will improve daily life for the people.

The road project, which stretches from the main road to the local school, includes road formation, gravel dumping and compacting works.

This project is expected to greatly improve connectivity and support economic and social development in the area.
