ZMA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CHAIRS AFRIMETS LEGAL METROLOGY MEETING IN ETHIOPIA
The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA)Executive Director , Mr. Humphrey Nkobeni, is chairing the AFRIMETS Legal Metrology Technical Committee Meeting at the 19th Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS) General Assembly, being held from 3–7 August 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the theme: "Metrology for Digital Transformation – Building Trusted Measurements for Africa's Future."
Mr. Nkobeni, who also serves as Vice President of AFRIMETS, presented two strategic papers to the General Assembly:
• AFRIMETS Communication and Awareness Strategy (2027–2029); and
• AFRIMETS Membership Fees Proposal: A Funding Proposal to Support the Long-Term Financial Sustainability of AFRIMETS.
Hosted by the Ethiopian Metrology Institute, the Assembly has brought together delegates from 54 African countries, alongside regional and international partners. The event is also graced by the President of the International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML), Dr. Bob Joseph Mathew, and Mr. Ian Dunmill from the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).
As Chair of the Legal Metrology Technical Committee, Mr. Nkobeni is leading discussions on strengthening legal metrology systems across Africa to support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), promote fair trade, protect consumers, and drive industrial development through harmonised measurement systems.
Mr. Nkobeni is accompanied by ZMA’s Director – Scientific and Industrial Mr. Fredrick Hamutunda, Director - Legal Metrology Dr. Eng. Michael Nsefu and Legal Counsel Mr. Andrew Chakanika.
