The Energy Community is an international organization bringing together the EU and its neighbours in Armenia, Norway and Turkey participate as Observers.

The Energy Community is an international organisation which brings together the European Union and its neighbours to create an integrated pan-European energy market. The organisation was founded by the Treaty establishing the Energy Community signed in October 2005 in Athens, Greece, in force since July 2006. The key objective of the Energy Community is to extend the EU internal energy market rule

s and principles to countries in South East Europe, the Black Sea region and beyond on the basis of a legally binding framework. The Energy Community has ten members: the European Union and nine Contracting Parties - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo*, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine.

💫 Are you a woman working in the energy sector in the Energy Community Region?

This is your reminder that you have TWO WEEKS left to submit up to *two photographs* portraying yourself in your working environment. 📸

Women working in the energy sector and having their long-term residence in one of the Energy Community Contracting Parties: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo*, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, or Ukraine are invited to apply.

Launched by The Energy Community Secretariat, in cooperation with GIZ Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, the initiative responds to the need for more visible role models that challenge gender stereotypes and inspire future generations.

An exhibition featuring the selected photographs will be launched at the Just Transition Forum 2026 on 20 October 2026 in Podgorica, Montenegro, with the opportunity for the exhibition to be showcased at additional regional and international events thereafter. 👇

💛 💙 Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) made an additional contribution of more than EUR 249 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund through KfW, representing the largest contribution to the Fund to date and bringing Germany’s total contribution to over EUR 641 million.

🚨 As Russia threatens to “massively” target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, this support underlines its commitment to support the preparations for the coming winter.

🗣️ “Ukraine remains under heavy Russian assault on people and civil infrastructure. Ukraine is not some far away war, but its security is a European responsibility. Energy supply especially remains a front line of this war. That is why we support Ukraine in protecting and rebuilding energy infrastructure and appeal to all international partners for further efforts,” affirmed Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche. “Germany is the largest donor of the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and supports Ukraine in tandem with German companies. Through private donations of parts, energy for 1.4 million people has already been restored. At the same time we are mobilising private investments in reconstruction. Because a free Ukraine needs a strong economic outlook and prosperity in freedom.”

🫶 Further contributions are still needed. At the Ukraine Recovery Conference in June, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat called for EUR 650 million in additional support. With Germany’s contribution, EUR 194 million is still needed to meet Ukraine’s priority energy needs before temperatures drop again and the heating season has begun.

🗣️ “Ensuring the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system through this winter is critical not only for millions of Ukrainians, but for the security and stability of the wider region. We thank Germany for its contribution and call on other partners to step forward,” affirmed Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski.

👉 Estonia's recent EUR 125.000,00 contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund brings its lifetime donations to EUR 2.745.000,00.

💡 With around 70% of Ukraine’s pre-war energy generation capacity destroyed, according to the European Council, Ukraine is now preparing for a fifth winter at full-scale war. In this context, further support like Estonia’s will be critical to helping energy companies secure the equipment and resources needed to repair damage, maintain essential services and respond rapidly to further attacks.

🦺 EUR 443.8 million is still needed to meet Ukraine’s priorities based on the EUR 650 million funding needs announced at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in June and taking into account recent contributions secured since then.

🗣️ Estonia's Minister of Energy and the Environment, Andres Sutt: "Russia’s systematic attacks against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure are aimed at much more than destroying power plants and other infrastructure. Their goal is to break the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the country as a whole. I have also seen for myself, on the ground in Ukraine, how directly attacks on energy infrastructure affect people’s daily lives and how crucial a functioning energy system is to the resilience of society at large. Energy security is one of the pillars of Ukraine’s ability to endure, and our additional contribution will help Ukraine respond more quickly to the consequences of the attacks and prepare for yet another winter. Estonia will continue to support Ukraine for as long as there is a need."

🗣️ Foreign Minister of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna: "Russia is waging a systematic campaign against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, striking power stations, water systems, and heating facilities with the clear intent to leave Ukrainian civilians in the dark and cold. Our task is to ensure these attempts fail. Ukraine’s energy grid must be shielded, damaged facilities repaired without delay, and critical supplies sustained uninterrupted. Contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund directly reinforce Ukraine’s ability to keep its energy sector functioning under attack, and to remain resilient as winter approaches."

🗣️ Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski: “Estonia’s continued support for the Ukraine Energy Support Fund is a demonstration of the international determination needed to ensure that Russia cannot turn attacks on Ukraine’s energy system into a weapon against the country’s resilience, its people and its ability to withstand the war,” affirmedWe count on others to urgently follow Estonia’s example.”

🥳 This past weekend, the Energy Community Summer School (this year in Tirana, Albania!) welcomed 40 young professionals and researchers from 27 countries to explore the challenges shaping the region’s energy future. 👇

Albania's Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaci opened the Summer School.

🗣️ “Ten years ago, the Summer School helped shape my own path in the energy sector. Returning over the years as a mentor, and today opening its tenth edition as Minister, is a powerful reminder that sharing knowledge is an investment whose impact unfolds over time. The participants we inspire today will carry forward the responsibility of building a cleaner, more secure and more connected energy future for our region,” Minister Karakaçi said in his opening address.

"The Summer School reflects the Energy Community’s long-standing investment in the next generation of energy leaders—equipping young professionals with the knowledge, networks and perspective to shape a secure, integrated energy future," said Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.

🔍 This is a great fit for someone who:

The contest is open to women working in the energy sector and having their long-term residence in one of the Energy Community Contracting Parties: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo*, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, or Ukraine.

Eligible applicants include women working in technical, operational, field-based, engineering, regulatory, policy, research and management roles. The submitted photograph must represent the applicant’s own professional story, experience or journey and should capture a real energy-sector working environment.
