NSW SES Albury and Corowa responded to a different type of job this afternoon. Members assisted freeing a cockatoo trapped in fishing line.

All of us here at Albury SES pay our respects to those who lost their lives overnight in Ballina. Our thoughts are with those at Marine Rescue NSW and all those impacted in the Ballina community.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

NSW Albury SES would like to thank our past, present and future military personnel and acknowledge our respects to those who have served with the ultimate sacrifice.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. She shall not weary them, nor the tears condemn. Lest We Forget.

Albury SES would like to thank everyone who have so generously given their change this morning to our members for the annual Good Friday Appeal.

All our members loved having the opportunity to speak to members of our community while raising much needed funds for a worthy cause.

There is less than one week to go before members of Albury SES, along with our other local emergency agencies will be hitting the streets for the Good Friday Appeal of 2026.

One of the most worthy causes of the year, raising money for the Royal Children’s Hospital who do an unbelievable job treating our most vulnerable and providing support to their families.

There will be sirens and your little puppies probably won’t be happy, but please give any change you might have to support such a worthy cause. Any little bit helps our sickest kids have the support they deserve.

Come out, say hi, get a photo with our vehicles and chat to our members. Let’s put Albury on the map with our generosity and support.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises tropical humidity continues on the eastern flank of a low in the far southwest of the state, resulting in a broad rainband with isolated thunderstorms. This system is moving slowly eastward and is forecast to be over the eastern Riverina by Tuesday morning, with rainfall clearing from the west in its wake.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible for southeastern parts of the Upper Western, eastern parts of the Lower Western, Central West Slopes and Plains and Riverina, spreading to over the South West Slopes, Southern Tablelands and the ACT during overnight. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 40 to 70 mm are possible.

Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is possible over eastern parts of the Riverina, South West Slopes and Southern Tablelands overnight. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 70 to 90 mm are possible.

The risk of HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL is forecast to ease throughout during Tuesday morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises Tropical humidity continues on the eastern flank of a low in the far southwest of the state near the Victorian border, resulting in a broad rainband with isolated thunderstorms. The low is forecast to move east today, with rainfall clearing from the west in its wake.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible for southwestern parts of the Upper Western, Lower Western and Riverina forecast districts today, spreading to eastern parts of the warning area including the ACT this evening.
