Our youth programs need introverts as much as extroverts because different personalities build stronger communities.

Emerging northern beef leaders are invited to apply for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes supply chain experience.

Angus Australia, in partnership with the Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association (NTCA) and Teys Australia, is calling for applications for the 2026 Northern Beef Leadership Initiative, Find Your Northern Edge Program, an immersive leadership and supply chain tour designed to develop the next generation of industry leaders.

Running from 26–30 October 2026 in Queensland, the program will bring together 12 young professionals (aged 18–40) for a fully hosted experience exploring key stages of the beef supply chain, from feedlot and processing through to export and global markets.

Participants will gain direct access to industry-leading operations including Teys Condamine Feedlot, Teys Beenleigh Processing Facility and the Port of Brisbane, while also engaging with senior industry leaders and taking part in leadership development sessions.

Angus Australia CEO Scott Wright said the program provides an important opportunity to broaden industry understanding.

“Programs like this give young people the opportunity to step outside the farm gate and see how the entire beef supply chain works, building stronger, more informed leaders for the future of our industry.”

Places are limited to 12 participants, with the majority of expenses covered.

The impact of the Award doesn’t stop with those who have won.

For Zanda McDonald 2024 Award NZ winner Nancy Crawshaw, the Zanda McDonald network has helped shape not only her own thinking, but opportunities for other young people coming through the industry too.

“Through the Zanda McDonald Network, every youth event I’m involved in at Angus Australia has been elevated.

From farm visits and guest speakers at the GenAngus Future Leaders Conference to welcoming Indonesian participants at the World Angus Youth Competition, the connections built through the Zanda McDonald Award have opened doors and created richer experiences for young people passionate about agriculture."

For Nancy, the biggest shift has been her mindset.

“Being a part of the Zanda McDonald Network has given me real confidence in my own path.
When you’re surrounded by people who look at agriculture from every angle, with that helicopter view, it pushes you to think bigger, challenge your own beliefs, and see where you can make an impact.”

Since its launch in 2019, the GenAngus Future Leaders Program has become the pinnacle of youth development at Angus Australia — a transformative experience that’s shaping the future of the beef industry. Having just completed its 8th cohort in 2026, the program has supported over 100 alumni, many of whom have gone on to purchase land, acquire businesses, and build their own enterprises from the ground up.

Presented by the Angus Australia Foundation in partnership with Achmea Farm Insurance , the 5-day intensive program provides emerging industry leaders with business skills, industry insights, and networking opportunities.
