♻️ Recycling shouldn’t be confusing – and getting it right makes a real difference!

Recent audits show contamination is high in our area, with an opportunity to recover more from our recycling bins.

Even a small amount of the wrong item can divert a whole truckload to landfill.

👉 What can go in your yellow recycling bin?
✅ Paper and cardboard
✅ Hard plastics (soft drink bottles, yoghurt tubs, takeaway containers)
✅ Aluminium and steel cans (drink cans, empty deodorant cans, food tins)

🚫Keep these out:
❌ Plastic bags and soft plastics
❌ Food and liquids
❌ Clothing and textiles
❌ Glass jars and bottles (these go in your purple-lidded glass bin)

Not sure? Check our 'What goes in my bins?' guide on our website or contact us on 03 5018 8100 to speak with a Waste Education Officer.

Recycling correctly means more materials are recovered, fewer loads are rejected, and less waste ends up in landfill.

If you’re already recycling right – thank you. You’re helping keep the system working for everyone.

Great work Mildura! Thanks to everyone who attended our April Detox your Home event at Mildura Landfill.

We welcomed 50 attendees who took the opportunity to declutter their homes, clean out their sheds and garages, and some who were preparing their properties for sale.

Thanks to your efforts, an impressive 1,149 kilograms of potentially hazardous waste was safely disposed of through the Detox your Home Program.

The most commonly dropped-off items included:

✅ Garden chemicals
✅ Herbicides and pesticides
✅ Paints and oils
✅ Petrol and other fuels

We're proud to be supporting an important local research project focused on improving heart health in our region

The Heart Health Check Community Project is a federally funded research project led by La Trobe University in partnership with local community members and healthcare providers.

It’s exploring new ways for rural Australians to access a heart health check - whether that’s at home, through a pharmacy, or at a local healthcare service.

Why this matters: less than 1% of eligible Australians currently get a heart health check, despite heart disease being the leading cause of death, both nationally and here in our region.

By taking part, you’ll receive your own heart health check and a better understanding of your risk to heart disease, while also contributing to research that could help shape a new, more accessible model of care for rural communities.

It’s something just for you and a chance to help create something better for others.
