🚒 Firefighter 1 and 2 course in Jerilderie 🚒

On Sunday, members gathered in Jerilderie to take part in the Firefighter 1 and 2 course, developing the skills and knowledge needed to safely and effectively respond to emergencies in our communities.

The day provided participants with valuable hands-on experience in firefighting techniques, equipment operation, and teamwork, all under the guidance of experienced trainers.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, the trainers who shared their knowledge, and the members who helped make the day a success. Training like this ensures our members remain prepared, capable, and ready to answer the call when their communities need them most.

🚒 A Proud Moment for Werai Lands 🚒

South West Area Commander Kelwyn White and Mid Murray Zone District Manager Tony Whitehorn, were pleased to officially hand over a CAT 7 Fire Truck to the people of Werai Lands.

This exciting addition marks a significant step forward for the Werai Land and Water Aboriginal Corporation providing vital support and capability for the newly appointed Werai Rangers, who will now have access to a dedicated firefighting appliance.

All parties involved were enthusiastic and proud to see this important resource delivered—strengthening local capacity to respond to fire emergencies and protect community, land, and culture.

👏 A fantastic outcome for the Werai Lands community!

🔥 Commissioner’s Commendation for Service (Individual) 🔥

Congratulations to our Group Captain Andrew Browning, on receiving a well-deserved Commissioner’s Commendation for Service.

Andrew is the longest-serving Group Captain and Captain within the Jerilderie Rural Fire District, and his dedication to the RFS spans decades. A highly respected trainer and leader, he has played a vital role in countless courses and zone exercises, consistently setting exceptional standards and mentoring members across the service.

His leadership has strengthened confidence and capability within teams, while his contributions to Area Command and the development of the Jerilderie/Argoon CAT6 prototype have delivered lasting benefits to the broader fire community. Andrew has also been instrumental in guiding districts through amalgamation, fostering collaboration, and improving resource management.

More recently, he has worked closely with landholders and stakeholders to manage fire risks associated with renewable energy projects—ensuring informed, inclusive, and practical outcomes for all involved.

Andrew’s commitment, humility, and extensive local knowledge make him an outstanding leader and a truly worthy recipient of this honour.

👏 Thank you for your service, Andrew and congratulations

Today we acknowledge St. Florian’s Day, honouring Saint Florian — the patron saint of firefighters.

It’s a day to reflect on the courage, commitment, and quiet dedication shown by our firefighters and emergency service personnel, both past and present. We are incredibly grateful for those who stand ready to protect our communities, often in the most challenging conditions.

To our members, volunteers, and their families — thank you. Your service does not go unnoticed, and your support behind the scenes is just as vital.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and take a moment today to recognise the strength and spirit that binds our emergency service community together.
