🚒 New to the RFS? Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.

Starting something new can feel exciting… and a little overwhelming.

You might be wondering:
❓ Where do I fit?
❓ What if I don’t know enough?
❓ What if I’m not sure firefighting is for me?

The good news is there isn’t one way to be part of the RFS.

Some members discover they love operations.
Others find their strengths in logistics, communications, planning, training, community engagement, catering, leadership and support roles.

You don’t need to have everything figured out from day one.

Say yes to opportunities.
Ask questions.
Meet people.
Try things.
Give yourself time to find your place.

Your journey in the RFS doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.

There’s no single way to be an RFS member.

The Women in Fire Network exists to connect women across all of these roles — creating opportunities to learn, grow, lead and support one another.

Our loss is Wagga's gain!
On Friday, those of us who were available gathered to farewell Mandy from the Mid Murray Zone as she begins her new chapter. We are very sad to be losing her, but she will absolutely be an asset to her new team! Wishing you good stead Mandy, thank you for being with us on this journey!

👩‍🚒 Not everyone joins the RFS for the same reason — and that’s exactly the strength of our service.
Some members love being operational.
Some enjoy planning and coordination.
Some want connection, skills, confidence or community.
Some want to give back in a way that fits around family, work or life.

The Women in Fire Network celebrates all of it.
There is no single “right” way to be an RFS member.

If you’ve ever thought:

This is your reminder that there are many ways to belong.

🚒 There’s more than one way to wear yellow.
When people think of the RFS, they often picture firefighters on the truck. But the reality is that our service runs because of people contributing in so many different ways.
You don’t need to be first on a hose line to make a meaningful impact.

Women across the RFS contribute through:

🗺️ Incident management
📋 Logistics
🍽️ Catering and welfare
🧯 Training and support roles
👥 Community engagement
🚗 Transport and operations support
📝 Administration and coordination

…and of course, firefighting too.

Every role matters. Every role supports our communities.

You might have noticed a theme in our posts and events recently, May was mental health awareness month!
Did you know as an RFS volunteer, you can connect with a Peer Supporter at any time?

When you call this number, you’ll be connected to the Operations Coordination Centre (OCC). Simply ask to speak with a ‘Peer Support Duty Officer’ and provide your phone number.
They will ensure a Mental Health Services Duty Officer calls you back.
There are Mental Health Services Duty Officers on call 24/7 ready to support you.
