🔥🚒 “Unlearning, I’m Just…” 🚒🔥

What a fantastic day of connection, leadership, and hands-on learning!

We were inspired by Ann Buesnel, who shared her leadership journey—highlighting both the challenges and rewards. Her key message said it all:
👉 “Always reach behind.”

It was also a privilege to hear from Kelwyn White, alongside a panel of brigade leaders who spoke honestly about leadership across different roles.

We wrapped up with practical scenarios, including a fast-moving grassfire and an MVA—putting teamwork and decision-making into action.

👏 Thanks to Ann Buesnel, Kelwyn White, Julia O'Connel, Belinda James, and Phyllis Ball for their honesty and encouragement.

A strong reminder that leadership is about backing yourself—and each other.

You have been waiting, you have been asking, it’s here!
Our next event is on Saturday 28th March 2026 at our Fire Control Centre in Deniliquin.
Open to all genders!
We will be starting at 9am sharp, with a jam packed day full of connecting, learning, and getting our hands dirty that you don’t want to miss!
Our theme for the day is "Unlearning I'm just", this theme recognises that we often sell ourselves short when it comes to leadership, forgetting all the skills and life experiences we bring that may not hold formal titles.

👩‍🚒 We are excited to have Ann Buesnel- Director Regional Operations West, South Australian
Country Fire Service, as our guest speaker sharing her leadership journey.
🔥 We will have a discussion panel with Q&A celebrating our female captains and their journey in stepping up.
🤝In the afternoon we will dive into mentoring, stepping up and coaching.
🚒 And of course we will get our PPC dirty with some hands on scenario practice (so dont forget to wear it or bring it with you!)

If you are keen to join us for the day, register your interest here ➡️

🔥 To our incredible firefighters 🔥

Not everyone is able to be on the active fireground during this bushfire emergency — and that is okay. Your contribution is still powerful and deeply needed.

If you’re not able to assist on the fireground right now, you can still make a huge difference by helping our communities recover and support those displaced. Relief centres are urgently needing:

👕 Kids’ clothing (all sizes)
🧸 Toys, books & comfort items
🧴 Essential spare items in good condition

Every bag collected, every toy sorted, every small act of kindness matters. Support comes in many forms, and this is one of them.

Thank you for showing up for our communities in whatever way you can. 💛🚒
