Tallowood Mountain Rail Trail

Tallowood Mountain Rail Trail AND bringing to life the 148yr old steam train 1919 at Glenreagh! Tallowood Ventures Limited (TVL) is a not-for-profit company set up in November 2022.

Transforming the historic, disused 35km rail corridor from Ulong to Glenreagh in the glorious Orara Valley into a world-class rail trail tourist attraction for everyone to enjoy. In March 2023, the company acquired all the assets of Glenreagh Mountain Railway (GMR). This includes the rail corridor and all the sheds, engines, carriages and stations previously owned by GMR. TVL proposes building a c

ycling and walking track along the defunct section of the Glenreagh to Ulong rail corridor. This rail trail will be 35 kilometres long, pass from the Dorrigo Plateau down to the coastal plain and traverse a section of the proposed Great Koala National Park. The villages of Ulong and Lowanna sit at the southern end of the proposed rail trail, while Glenreagh sits at the northern. TVL is also planning to run rail projects using the famous 1919 steam engine and carriages on the Glenreagh section of the rail corridor as well as up at the Ulong/Lowanna section of the corridor. TVL is run by a professional Board with two members from GMR, two members from the Woolgoolga Mountain Bike Club with an independent Chairman with more than 25 years’ experience running companies and Boards. We have had community meetings at Ulong, Glenreagh and Dorrigo and interest has been positive! Here is a link to the community consultation. COMMUNITY CONSULTATION FB July23.pdf

HELLO TRAVELLERS!
HISTORIC LOWANNA RAILWAY STATION IN THE HINTERLAND OF COFFS HARBOUR.

🚐We are looking for short-term caretakers, in a caravan or motorhome, to mow the grounds and do light gardening for our heritage railway station located at Lowanna, in the hinterland of the Coffs Harbour, NSW.

In exchange, you will be able to hook into power at station, access tank water and use station toilet. There is a shower, (but no hot water.)

🚞Historic Lowanna station is on a disused rail line (which we are working to develop into a 35km rail trail down the mountain to Glenreagh.)

Lowanna is a small and quiet mountain village, approximately 45 minutes drive to Coffs Harbour. There is a small school across the road, and a general store/cafe/fuel (with the best burgers around!) a few hundred metres away. Lowanna General Store

The neighbouring town of Ulong has a wonderful cafe Ulong General Store and ex-services club Ulong Ex-Services Club

🌳Bindarri National Park is nearby, and Dorrigo National park is a short drive away. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service

Rail trails are for everyone to enjoy!
This is our vision too! 🚵‍♀️🚶‍♂️🛴👨‍🦽‍➡️👩‍🦯‍➡️🏃👩‍🦼‍➡️😊

"Accessibility isn’t an add‑on here, it’s the vision. It’s the whole point.
And every story about how easy the Trail is to enjoy, every mobility aid, pram, bike, or set of wheels that rolls right on, is exactly why we keep doing what we do." Northern Rivers Rail Trail
