Who remembers what Shannon Park looked like before the first renovation? While paths had been formed with rock edging and garden beds and shrubs planted, the area was due for its first overhaul. This happened in August 2003 when the band of volunteers took on the task. AccNr00902

This is Laura and Sid Hooson, taken on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. To celebrate this momentous occasion of their lives that was held in October 1976, they were joined by family and friends at the Glenreagh School of Arts. AccNr01058

'Glenreagh couple married 60 years
Glenreagh couple Sid and Laura Hooson have recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. The diamond wedding anniversary celebra-tions were attended by 170 friends and re-latives, including the original bridesmaid, Mrs. Harriet McPherson, sister of Mrs. Hooson. The gathering was held at the Glenreagh Hall and chaired by life-time friend Mr. Harry Ellem, who proposed the toast to the couple. Mr. Hooson, 83, and Mrs. Hooson, 81, have had seven children (two deceased) 21 grand children and 13 great grandchildren. They were married at the Glenreagh Church of England on October 18 1916. Mr. Hooson was born in England and first came to Australia in 1910 on a ship called the Nurrang. His first job was at Warren. Later he returned to Sydney and then to Graf-ton where he worked on the Grafton-Glenreagh railway line. In 1916 he married Laura Green, eldest girl of a family of 14, and brought a property at Talla-wudjah Creek where they have lived ever since. Mr. Hooson was presented with the King's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1935.
He was a councillor with Dorrigo shire for 24 years and president for several terms, as well as holding a great number of official positions includ-ing director of the South Grafton abattoirs, director of the Grafton Dairy Company and a member of the pastures protection board. He was also a member of the Clarence River County Council, representing Dorrigo, and involved in many other local organisations.'

This photo from the Nethie Davis/Lorraine Grace collection was taken at the Glenreagh School of Arts in 1970, when William (Bill) and Gertrude (Gertie) Weller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They are picture here with their children, from left to right, Nethie Davis (nee Pont), Alex, Fred, Lillian (Lil) Shipman, Bill Weller, Gertie Weller, Kathleen (Kath) Inskip, Victor (Vic). Sadly they had lost three of their children, two at a young age, William aged 2 and Eileen aged 19 months, and their daughter Nellie Lisle (nee Weller) at the age of 21. All three are buried at the Glenreagh Cemetery. The second photo is the original photo. AccNr01018

This photo of a soldier mounted on his horse is another photo that is in the Nana Glen photos, where the subject of the photos are unidentified. Do you recognise who this soldier is? The cars in the background can provide clues as to the era, i.e. the 1930s or 1940s, that this photo was taken but the location is also not known. AccNr01045

Kate Berry (blue/green check dress) and Natasha Brooks (pinkish hat, white overlay dress) curtsy to each other as they participate in the bush dance that was part of the Glenreagh Public School Centenary Week Activities - Pupil Dance Afternoon that was held on Monday, 21st September 1987. The other children do their part clapping to the rhythm of the beat. Clockwise from left to right are: Deletia Sinclair (red hair and blue skirt and top), Ballad Dempsey (blue check dress & hat with flowers), Debbie York (mop cap, black check skirt and white overlay), Rachael Ware (mop cap, red check skirt, white top), Nichole Elks (blonde hair, dark skirt, blue check shirt), Timothy Froesch (tall boy with red hair), ? (hidden, yellowish cream hat, blue shirt), Chris Gibb (striped shirt). There is another group of children on the right, who can you name in this group? In the background, behind the left group, two children and a bearded man, possibly Peter Teale, sit at the picnic table. Note the demountable classroom on the left, this is since been replaced with a brick building. AccNr00351

When Shannon Park was refurbished back in August 2003, Rod Hope was one of the people who volunteered to help. Here he is beside the path that has been formed up, watching what is happening out of view. One could think that perhaps the concrete is coming down the chute of the Boral concrete truck. During the week, Rod was the local Council worker who kept the town and surroundings neat and tidy. He passed away in February 2012 and a plaque honouring him, was placed on a sandstone rock in the park. AccNr00890
