Last night’s training ground, on the banks of the mighty Murray - provided the perfect setting for our volunteers to refresh their skills in safely reversing and launching our boats into the water at night. 🚤🌙🚘

As part of their ongoing commitment to learning and upskilling, our local volunteers dedicate two hours each week to training. 🙏

Every training session helps ensure we’re prepared and ready to support our community when needed.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, we were called to a motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of Flora Avenue and Eighth Street, following reports of a person under a vehicle.

Our Road Crash Rescue volunteers worked alongside other emergency services to safely lift the vehicle using our specialised airbag lifting equipment, allowing the person to be safely removed.

These high-pressure airbags are an important part of our road rescue equipment, allowing crews to carefully lift and stabilise heavy vehicles while creating a safe working space for rescuers.

As the Principal Road Rescue provider for Sunraysia, SES Mildura Unit responds to motor vehicle accidents where rescue assistance is required.

Our volunteers worked alongside Fire Rescue Victoria, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police CFA Sunraysia Fire Brigades Group — another example of our local emergency services working together when our community needs us.

If you come across water covering a road, do not attempt to drive through it. Even shallow water can hide potholes, debris or damage to the road surface.

With wet and windy weather forecasted across Sunraysia this weekend, now is the time to prepare before it arrives.

It’s a timely reminder that if you come across water over a road, do not enter or attempt to cross the floodwater. Remember, as little as 15 cm of water across a road can cause a driver to lose control.

Floodwater can hide potholes, branches, dangerous debris and road surfaces that may be damaged or completely washed away. Even if you know the road well, you don’t know what may be underneath the water.

Thank you to Sunraysia Daily for featuring our campaign and helping spread the word, and to all the local businesses who have already donated towards our locker campaign — your support is making a real difference.

Our current lockers are more than 30 years old and no longer provide the space, ventilation or accessibility needed to safely store modern uniforms, PPE, helmets and boots.

We are close to reaching our goal, but we’re not there just yet — it’s not too late to get involved.
