Murray River Council Murray River Council is a Local Government Area, located along the Murray River in southern NSW Welcome to the Murray River Council Official page.

This page is designed to be a space where we can engage with our residents, businesses and general communities on various topics. We invite all community members to use the page as a platform for share ideas and discussing relevant topics with us, and with one another. But first, a bit about us. The Murray River Council Local Government Area covers an area of 11,865km2, is home to approximately 12

,850 residents and is located in the southern Riverina, 800km south of Sydney and 205km north of Melbourne. The main population centres include Barham, Mathoura, Moama, Moulamein, Murray Downs, Tooleybuc and Wakool. Other settlements include Bunnaloo, Goodnight, Koraleigh and Womboota. Murray River Council has a wealth of physical features including majestic sweeping plains; magnificent stands of Redgum forests and is almost totally surrounded by the mighty Murray River and its tributaries. The area’s natural assets prove to be a large attraction for locals and visitors alike and form the backdrop to many recreational activities. With tourism, industry and an idyllic rural lifestyle, Murray River is a growing region with much to offer. A reminder that the Campaspe District Cross Country is taking place today at the Moama Recreation Reserve.

To help keep all participants, spectators and visitors safe, some internal roads within the reserve will be temporarily closed during the event.

⚠️ Please note: There will be no access to the Dog Park from 9am–2pm.

We appreciate your understanding while this important school event takes place safely for everyone involved. Good luck to all the competitors!

Campaspe District Cross Country is coming to the Moama Recreation Reserve this Friday 15 May.

To help keep all participants, spectators and visitors safe, some internal roads within the reserve will be temporarily closed during the event.

🚧Path upgrade works: Stevens St, Mathoura

Council will be upgrading the footpath on Stevens St (between Livingstone St and Mathoura St) with a new concrete path to improve accessibility and durability for the community.

📅 Works are scheduled to take place from Thursday 14 May – Friday 22 May.

During this time, the footpath will be closed to the public. Please use alternate routes while works are underway.

Batteries might seem harmless….but in your bin, they can start dangerous fires.

❌ Never place batteries in your household bins
✅ Drop them off at designated recycling points

Household batteries or car batteries can be dropped off at a Community Recycling Centre for FREE disposal. Or why not pop into one of our Customer Service Centres and collect a household battery recycling box which you can drop back into us when full.

Due to the Moama Public School’s Cross Country event, there will be restricted access around the Moama Recreation Reserve tomorrow, Wednesday 13 May 2026 between the hours of 11am and 1pm.

Please be mindful of young people utilising the area during this period.

🚧 Shared path upgrade: Cobb Highway, Moama

Upgrade works will continue this week on sections of the shared path along the west side of Cobb Highway - between Kiely Road and Beer Road.

Damaged sections of the path will be replaced to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

❗️What to expect:
Detours will remain in place for pedestrians/cyclists until Friday 15 May.

Please follow all signage while passing through the area.

There will be no impact to motorists.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out these improvements.
