Murray River Council Murray River Council is a Local Government Area, located along the Murray River in southern NSW Welcome to the Murray River Council Official page.

This page is designed to be a space where we can engage with our residents, businesses and general communities on various topics. We invite all community members to use the page as a platform for share ideas and discussing relevant topics with us, and with one another. But first, a bit about us. The Murray River Council Local Government Area covers an area of 11,865km2, is home to approximately 12

,850 residents and is located in the southern Riverina, 800km south of Sydney and 205km north of Melbourne. The main population centres include Barham, Mathoura, Moama, Moulamein, Murray Downs, Tooleybuc and Wakool. Other settlements include Bunnaloo, Goodnight, Koraleigh and Womboota. Murray River Council has a wealth of physical features including majestic sweeping plains; magnificent stands of Redgum forests and is almost totally surrounded by the mighty Murray River and its tributaries. The area’s natural assets prove to be a large attraction for locals and visitors alike and form the backdrop to many recreational activities. With tourism, industry and an idyllic rural lifestyle, Murray River is a growing region with much to offer. ❗EOI's for 6 Meninya Street, Moama close next week.

👉 Council is seeking proposals for the future purchase and redevelopment of the former Murray Shire Office site at 6 Meninya Street, Moama.

Located at a prominent gateway position into Moama, the soon to be vacant site presents an opportunity for a high-quality development that delivers strong community, economic and visitor benefits for the region.

Council is inviting developers and investors to participate in a two-stage Expression of Interest (EOI) and Request for Proposal (RFP) process.

Stage 1, Expression of Interest (EOI) is now open.
EOI submissions should outline:
• Experience and capability
• Proposed concept for the site
• Community and economic benefits
• Financial capacity

Submissions will be assessed to shortlist respondents for Stage 2 of the process.

Please note that our Moama and Barham Customer Service Centres will be closed this Friday 21 August 2026 due to staff training.

Mathoura and Moulamein Service Centres are already closed on Fridays, so this closure will only affect customers in Moama and Barham.

If you’re planning to complete a transaction with Council this week, please pop in and see us before Friday to avoid any inconvenience.

🌱 NOTICE OF W**D SPRAYING/VEGETATION MANAGEMENT

Spring is just around the corner....which means you’ll see our Biosecurity crew out-and-about over the next 2 months conducting w**d spraying activities as part of our spring vegetation spray program.

Spaces across all townships can include:
- rural sealed roads
- some unsealed roads
- parks and garden spaces
- laneways
- sport fields

There will be signage or warning devices as required, so we advise people to avoid the immediate spraying area while in progress.

🌳Langwell Park playground upgrade starting soon

We're upgrading the Langwell Park playground at Lawson Drive, Moama. Works will kick-off on 17 August and are expected to be completed by early September, weather permitting.

The improvements will extend the play area and include:
• New inclusive play unit
• Double swing set
• Basket swing
• Picnic table
• New soft fall surfacing
The existing play unit, shade sail and rockers will remain.

⚠️ Please note: The playground will be closed while works are underway.

We appreciate your patience as we compete the upgrade.
