Careless battery disposal can cause waste fires 🚒

Council’s waste contractor had to make a pit stop near Twin Bridges, Fernvale this morning to dump a burning load of waste caused by a battery fire.
QFES was on site to support the garbage truck drivers in putting out the fire.

⚠️ Residents are reminded to not dispose of batteries in kerbside collection bins.
Instead, they can be disposed at one of Council’s refuse and recycling centres in Esk, Coominya, Harlin or Kilcoy.

With conditions so dry, the ground in our area has no moisture at all. Don't be fooled by the green grass; underneath is cured, dry fuel. With a good breeze or some strong gusts, this dry, hidden fuel will carry a fast-moving grassfire. There is a huge amount of fuel on the ground now; our fire season has started early or has extended. We are running out of time if this continues with no significant rainfall over winter; farmers are trying to get their hazard reduction burns done before conditions get any worse. Please keep your boundary gates and inner gates free from vegetation; this will help our crews gain access safely and promptly. Keep electric fences well-maintained - nothing's worse than high-tension wire wrapped around appliances or differentials. Cheers, Tyson, First Officer, Villeneuve Rural Fire Brigade

Heads up, there is a permitted hazard reduction burn near Billygreen Dr, Villeneuve. Our brigade got a fire call to it not long ago. There are about 15 stacks burning. Safety is monitored by the property owners with a tractor and firefighting gear. Smoke is going straight up due to no wind. Stacks are burning within containment lines. We have neighbours monitoring this also. Kind regards, Tyson Purdie, First Officer, Villeneuve Rural Fire Brigade.🔥🔥

Did you Spot it ? 👀👇🔎🔥

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service crews are undertaking Planned Burning to reduce fuel loads this week.

📍Located in the D'Aguilar National Park, on the top of Mount Archer (4514).

Planned Burn - D'Aguilar National Park, Mount Archer area

Applies: 14—20 April 2026
Published: 13 April 2026 12:09pm

This alert applies to the following park: D'Aguilar National Park

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct a planned burn in D’Aguilar National Park near Mount Archer on Tuesday 14th through to Monday 20th April 2026 weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests. As a result, smoke may be seen in the Kilcoy, Woodford, Westvale, Delaney's Creek and Somerset Dam area.

The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas. This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration. Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions. Please observe signage, barriers, do not enter closed areas and follow direction from rangers. Safety is our concern but your responsibility. For more information, please call The Gap office of QPWS on 07 3164 3600.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.

For your safety please use caution whilst visiting the park.

Please monitor park alerts on the department's website for updated information.
