Dolly Parton and Rotary – A Shared Commitment to Literacy

Dolly Parton in 2009 partnered with Rotary International through her Imagination Library, helping promote early childhood literacy and providing free books to children around the world.

Shared Mission: Founded in 1996, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides children from birth to age five with a free, age-appropriate book every month. The program encourages a love of reading and helps give young children a strong foundation for learning.

Global Collaboration: Since 2009, Rotary clubs around the world have worked alongside Dolly Parton’s organisation to help fund, sponsor and expand the Imagination Library. The program has grown to reach hundreds of local communities across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

Rotary Recognition: Dolly Parton was a keynote guest at the 2010 Rotary International Convention in Montreal, Canada. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to literacy and children’s education, she was honoured as an Honorary Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow.

Together, Rotary and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library demonstrate how partnerships can make a lasting difference in the lives of children and help build a stronger, more literate future.
