⚠️ Heads up - magpie swooping season has started!

Magpies have begun swooping a little earlier than usual this year, so please be mindful when walking, riding or spending time outdoors.

Magpies breed from August to October and may swoop people or pets while defending the area around their nests. Swooping generally lasts about eight weeks and usually stops once the young birds leave the nest.

🐦 If you come across a swooping magpie:

β€’ Avoid the area and take an alternative route where possible
β€’ Don't provoke or harass the bird
β€’ If swooped, move away from the area immediately
β€’ Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses or carry an open umbrella
β€’ Bike riders should consider dismounting and walking their bike if there is no alternative route

Council will install temporary warning signs in known swooping areas.

πŸ“ž To report a swooping magpie, contact Council on (02) 6549 3700.

Stay alert and give our feathered locals a little extra space this spring. πŸ’›πŸ¦
