It was wonderful to see so many people interested in knitting and crocheting at Orange City Library yesterday for the World Wide Public Knit In!!!

The Orange Purlers were also grateful for all the generous donations of yarn!!

ECCO PRIZE FOR YARRAWONG PRESCHOOL:

Teresa, one of the Early Childhood Educators from the Yarrawong Pre-School and Early Education Centre called into the library to accept the prize for their winning entry in Community 2 Dimensional.

The Yarrawong entry called "Reclaimed" is being packed up ready to go to Broken Hill for the next round of judging (Regional Showcase)!!! Central West Libraries would like to thank the Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange (ECCO) for providing the prize – a book voucher, a perfect gift for a learning centre.

ECCO also entered artwork made with waste gathered by their SWAT (Sunday Walking and Trash Team). If you would like to join the SWAT team let us know, and we’ll put you in touch!

Katrina Roe Launches Latest Book The Stolen Bairn at Orange!!!

Please join us for the launch of a brand new work of children's fiction, ideal for readers aged 9-14 by local author Katrina Roe at Orange City Library on Saturday 27 June at 2pm.

The Stolen Bairn is an enthralling middle-grade adventure, based on three classic Scottish faerytales.

Katrina will appear in conversation with long-time journalist Melanie Pearce. Books will be available for sales and signing from Collins Booksellers and a there will be a faery activity as well.

About the book:
Katie Skea was stolen by faeries as a baby and won back by her mother’s courage.
Years later on the Isle of Skye, strange magic is stirring. When her new sister is mysteriously injured, Katie fears the faery world is calling her back—and the only way to save her family is to face the world she barely remembers.
Across Skye, Katie uncovers a fading faery kingdom, a boy trapped by nightly enchantments, and the truth about her own faery heritage.

About the author:

GRENFELL STORYTIMERS CHIRP LIKE BIRDS:

Grenfell Public Library Storytime was lots of fun this week as we discovered the names of twenty birds in this book of wonders, perfect for inspiring a love of the natural world - Look! A Bird by Anya Serota.

From the Toucan's tail, we discovered the characteristics that make birds unique!!

We have an owl puppet that all the Storytimers loved to pat - especially its soft fluffy feathers!!! We also set up a small sensory activity where they found eggs and feathers in among the streamers and fed the birds some delicious wiggly worms!!!

We will host another fun Storytime with a new shared story on Thursday at 10.30am - all carers and little ones are welcome. See you on Thursday!!!

CELEBRATE WORLDWIDE KNIT IN PUBLIC DAY TODAY AT ORANGE:

Orange Purlers, volunteer knitters, have been meeting at Orange City Library since 2010!! They knit for charity and support Wrap With Love Inc a not-for-profit organisation whose motto is "Cold humanity is our concern, people caring about other people."

The group is hosting a Knit-In Public Day TODAY - Saturday 13 June from 10am – 2pm at Orange City Library. It is being held to mark Worldwide Knit-in Public Day 2026!!!

Celebrate the joy of knitting, community and creativity with the Orange Purlers!!! Interested people are most welcome come along and enjoy a cuppa with the group, admire their handiwork and see them in action!!!

While many members of the group supply their own materials they gratefully accept donations of yarn. Donations of 8 ply yarn - wool or acrylic - may be left at Orange City Library - thank you.
