What a wonderful evening opening Untamed – the 2026 Public Schools Create exhibition at Orange Regional Museum last night, with a huge crowd in attendance. 🎨🌿

With more than 2,500 students from 19 public primary schools across Orange, Blayney and Cabonne contributing to the exhibition, the result is not only creative and visually stunning, but also incredibly thoughtful and educational.

Through their artwork, our young people have explored weeds, our local environment and the landscape around us in imaginative and engaging ways. It was wonderful to see their creativity and curiosity celebrated in such a professional setting — and I’m sure there were plenty of proud smiles as students spotted their own work on display.

A huge thank you to the students, teachers, families, Orange Regional Museum and Orange Regional Gallery teams for the incredible support, encouragement and commitment you provide in nurturing the creativity and confidence of our young people.

Now in its seventh year, Untamed is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when our schools and cultural institutions work together.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this wonderful exhibition to life. 👏

I had an enjoyable morning in Orange welcoming around 300 dental professionals and delegates to the Australian Dental Association NSW Branch Convention 2026. 🦷👏

It was fantastic to see so many dedicated professionals coming together to share knowledge, learn from leading experts and focus on improving health outcomes across our communities.

A special congratulations to Dr Sophie Halpin, who was an outstanding Master of Ceremonies. Her enthusiasm, warmth and encouraging words set a wonderful tone for the event.

I also congratulate the ADA NSW Branch committee on bringing together such a successful convention and thank everyone involved for the important work they do to support the dental profession and the health of our communities.

It’s a great opportunity for Orange to showcase what our city and region have to offer, while highlighting our growing reputation in health, education and innovation.

It has been a very productive couple of days in Canberra with Orange City Council CEO Scott Maunder, attending the Central NSW Joint Organisation Board meeting and a Federal Parliament House visit.

A particular highlight was the opportunity to meet with a range of Ministers, Assistant Ministers, Senators and Federal Members to discuss the issues and opportunities that matter to regional communities.

We had valuable conversations around regional development, local government, water, infrastructure, skills and training, health, emergency management and a range of other priorities. These discussions provide an important opportunity to advocate directly for Orange and the Central West and to better understand the opportunities available to our region.

One of the important takeaways for me was that local government doesn’t always receive positive news or feedback. There are challenges, competing priorities and difficult decisions at every level of government. However, having the opportunity to sit down face-to-face with decision-makers, ask questions, put forward our community’s concerns and work towards practical solutions is incredibly valuable.

A sincere thank you to our local Federal Member, Jamie Chaffey MP, for facilitating our visit to Parliament House and for making the time to engage with us.

Strong relationships and collaboration between local, state and federal governments are essential to delivering better outcomes for our communities. It was great to have Scott and I representing Orange and ensuring our community’s priorities continue to be heard. 🤝🇦🇺

It was a pleasure to attend the TAFE NSW “TAFE Connects with Orange LGA” workshop today — an important opportunity to bring together representatives from a range of organisations to listen, share ideas and identify the needs, aspirations and challenges facing our community.

What really stood out was the excellent collaboration and willingness to work together. By bringing different organisations and perspectives around the table, we can better understand the issues affecting our community and identify opportunities for stronger partnerships and practical solutions.

Events like this are so important because no single organisation can address every community need on its own. Working collaboratively, listening to each other and sharing knowledge gives us a much stronger foundation for achieving positive outcomes for the people of Orange.

A special thank you to Bianca Williams from TAFE NSW for her excellent facilitation and presentation. Bianca created a very positive and inclusive environment that encouraged open discussion, active listening and meaningful contributions from everyone involved.

Thank you to TAFE NSW and all of the organisations and representatives who participated today. I look forward to seeing the conversations and ideas from today translate into opportunities that benefit our community. 👏🤝

A fantastic weekend of junior basketball in Orange! 🏀

It was a real privilege to attend the Basketball NSW State Cup for Under 12s and Under 14s at Anzac Park and be invited to present trophies and medallions to the winners and runners-up.

With more than 400 players and officials involved, the tournament showcased an outstanding level of skill, talent and competitiveness from young basketballers right across NSW.

What impressed me most was the sportsmanship, respect and enthusiasm shown by the players throughout the competition. Winning is important, but the way these young athletes conducted themselves on and off the court was a real credit to them, their coaches, officials and families.

Congratulations to all the players who competed, and especially to the winners and runners-up. It was wonderful to see Orange hosting such a high-quality junior sporting event and welcoming so many visitors to our city. 👏🏆

A big thank you to Basketball NSW, the organisers, referees, volunteers, coaches and everyone who helped make the weekend such a success.

🎙️ A very special visit to the Mayoral Office

It was a real pleasure to welcome Joseph Peters into my Mayoral Office to interview me for a Mercy Connect podcast, accompanied by Mercy Connect Operations Manager, Chris Jacobs.

When Joseph first arrived, I could see that he was a little nervous, which was completely understandable. But as we started talking, he quickly settled in and his confidence really began to shine through. 😊

Joseph had prepared some terrific questions, covering why I wanted to become Mayor, some of my proudest moments, accessibility in our community, wheelchair access at the new sports stadium, accessible taxis, fishing opportunities and what positive change we could make for our community.

What impressed me most was the thoughtful and genuine way Joseph asked his questions. He was well prepared, respectful and confident, and he raised issues that are important not only to him, but to many people living with disability in our community.

I was particularly proud to see Joseph’s confidence grow throughout our conversation. Everyone deserves the opportunity to have their voice heard, and Joseph reminded me just how important it is that we listen to people with lived experience when we talk about building a truly inclusive community.

A big thank you to Joseph for inviting me to be part of his podcast, and to Chris Jacobs for joining us and supporting Joseph throughout the interview.

It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with you, Joseph. I hope you realise just how well you did.

A great day at Wangarang ♻️👏

It was a real privilege to be invited to Wangarang today to help celebrate another important milestone for our community — the opening of their third Return and Earn machine, and to have the honour of cutting the ribbon. ✂️🎉

Since opening in 2024, Wangarang has processed more than 26 million containers, returning more than $2.6 million to the community. That is an outstanding achievement in recycling, but what makes Wangarang particularly special is that it is about so much more.

The expansion creates more opportunities for meaningful employment for people living with disability — providing purpose, connection, independence and the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our community.

I also want to acknowledge the wonderful staff and support team at Wangarang. Their patience, dedication, encouragement and genuine care for the workers they support is truly inspiring. The work they do every day makes a real difference.

Congratulations to CEO Chris Rawlins, Chair Gary Norton, the Board, staff, participants and everyone involved in making this expansion possible.

Local jobs, stronger communities, better environmental outcomes and greater inclusion — this is something worth celebrating! 👏

It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of the Charles Sturt University – Newmont Simulation Centre and Immersion at the Bloomfield Medical Centre today.🏥

This outstanding facility represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare education, providing students with access to cutting-edge simulation technology and realistic clinical environments. Located within the Bloomfield Medical Centre, the simulation centre offers students the opportunity to develop and refine their skills in a safe, hands-on setting, helping to build confidence, strengthen clinical decision-making and better prepare our future nurses and health professionals for real-world practice. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Facilities like this are invaluable, not only for Charles Sturt University students but also for our region, helping to attract, educate and retain the skilled healthcare workforce our communities need now and into the future.

Progress doesn’t stop for winter! ❄️🏗️

While most of Orange was still asleep this morning, the dedicated team working on the John Davis OAM Stadium was already on site from 5:00am, braving freezing temperatures to keep this exciting project moving forward.

Today’s milestone saw the stadium seating stairs (seat mounts) and deck poured, but first there was one unexpected challenge – ice had formed on the formwork overnight, requiring workers to carefully defrost it before the concrete pour could begin. The photos really highlight the determination and professionalism of the crew, with one worker using a torch to remove the ice so work could proceed safely.

Projects of this scale don’t just happen. They are built through the hard work, skill and commitment of the many contractors, tradespeople and project teams who continue to deliver, even in some of Orange’s coldest winter conditions.

It’s fantastic to see the John Davis OAM Stadium taking shape, and every milestone brings us one step closer to delivering a world-class sporting facility that our community will enjoy for generations to come.

A huge thank you to everyone on site today for your dedication, resilience and unwavering commitment. Your efforts are helping bring this landmark project to life.

From freezing mornings to future sporting triumphs, every pour and every milestone is bringing the John Davis OAM Stadium closer to becoming a facility our entire region can be proud of.

It was a privilege to be invited to the 2026 Orange Readers & Writers Festival today and to present the 2026 Banjo Paterson Writing Awards.

The festival once again highlighted the power of storytelling, bringing together talented authors, aspiring writers and book lovers from across our region and beyond. It was wonderful to hear from an outstanding line-up of Australian authors, including Chris Hammer, Cynthia Banham, Sam Guthrie, Meredith Jaffe and Sue Williams, who each shared fascinating insights into their writing journeys and latest works.

A special highlight for me was the engaging conversation between Marianna Saran and Cynthia Banham. Their interview was thoughtful, inspiring and captivated the audience from beginning to end.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 Banjo Paterson Writing Awards:
🏆 Short Story (Joint Winners): Sharon Willdin – Satellites and Jane McGown – Ergie
🏆 Contemporary Poetry: Libby Sommer – Waves
