It's important understand how children’s brains develop and why emotions, reactions and behaviours are often linked to what’s happening beneath the surface. This connection can help parents and carers respond with empathy, patience and support.

By learning more about how children think, feel and learn, we can help them build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

Last week students at Stanmore Public School came together to enjoy National Simultaneous Storytime. From sharing a story with children around Australia to exploring this year’s theme, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading.

Book Week will be next term, with this year’s theme, Symphony of Stories, celebrating the power of books, imagination and creativity.

Inner West Council Libraries are holding Book Week competitions. Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 can enter the drawing competition, while students in Years 3–6 can submit a short story inspired by this year’s Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories. To take part follow the links on our website.

We love seeing our students inspired by books, storytelling and the endless possibilities that reading can unlock.

Our students recently took part in an engaging Aboriginal dance workshop, learning about culture, storytelling and connection through movement. It was a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding of First Nations perspectives while having fun and learning new skills.

Experiences like these help build respect, curiosity and appreciation for the rich cultures that shape our shared history.
