Please stay vigilant during bushfire season.

FIRE PERMITS SUSPENDED – MONDAY 7th September until MONDAY 14th September
due to the forecast High Fire Danger, all fire permits in Inverell & Tentrerfield LGA's are suspended from midnight today until Midnight Monday morning.
This measure is being taken to reduce the risk of fires starting and spreading under the heightened fire conditions.
If you currently hold a fire permit, you are unable to light new fires or stoke up existing fires during the suspension period. Please ensure any planned burns or activities requiring a permit are postponed.
Failure in complying with this suspension WILL result in heavy fines.

Council is supporting NSW Government efforts to raise awareness of H5 bird flu (avian influenza) and the important role the community can play in early detection in our Shire.

We are asking residents to be alert and to report any sick or dead birds or other animals that may be affected.

H5 bird flu has caused widespread deaths among wild birds, poultry and some mammals overseas. Wild birds can spread the virus, and Australia is preparing for and responding to the potential arrival of H5 bird flu.

What to do if you see sick or dead bird or wildlife:

Please do not touch suspected animals and keep children and pets away.

📸 RECORD
Take note of what you see and where you saw it. Please take photos/videos if it is safe to do so.

The School of Arts name is staying. Please read this important information:

We’ve heard some questions about the “Peter Allen Theatre” proposal.

To be clear: the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts name is not changing.

The proposal is to give the theatre within the building its own distinct name, just as other spaces in the building have their own names, including Donnelly Hall, The Reading Room and the George Woolnough Wing.

What do you think? Council is inviting the community to have its say on a proposal to name the theatre within the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts the “Peter Allen Theatre”.

The proposal, put forward by School of Arts Tenterfield Inc., recognises the enduring connection between Tenterfield and Peter Allen, one of Australia’s most celebrated performers and songwriters.

Born in Tenterfield in 1944, Peter Allen’s connection to the town lives on through his iconic song Tenterfield Saddler, which helped put Tenterfield on the world map and remains an important part of our town’s story.

🏛️ 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲. The building will remain the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts, just as other spaces within the building have their own names.

Direct links to QLD and NSW are back, Tenterfield! 🚌

Greyhound Australia has launched a daily trial coach service between Tamworth and Toowoomba, travelling along the New England Highway and stopping at Tenterfield along the way.

For the first time in almost a decade, Tenterfield has a direct coach link into Queensland, making it easier to travel north to Stanthorpe, Warwick and Toowoomba, with connections through to Brisbane.

The service is currently operating as a trial, and strong community patronage will be important to its future.

If you’ve been waiting for a public transport option to Queensland, now is the time to use it and show there’s demand for this important regional connection.

Greyhound’s Tenterfield bus stop is at United Service Station, 94 Rouse Street.
