Our MIDH team in Stann Creek is out dodging the weather on the Hummingbird Highway to clean and clear drainage structures. Sediment buildup is inevitable, and it obstructs free flow of water and causes flooding. This is a part of the maintenance we carry out on all major road networks.

Our Road Maintenance Unit was in Bella Vista on clean up duty, and this is what they found waiting for them. Sad to say, our experience across the country has been that many of our people don't have any sense of civic pride. Every single day we allocate a significant portion of our resources to picking up garbage.

Our Toledo Road Maintenance Unit is always on the job. And they have to be, since they collected 40 bags of garbage from the roadsides in just a two mile stretch of the Southern Highway. Let's do better, people. We don't do this when we go over to Chetumal or anywhere else, so why do it in our home.
