Emancipation Day 2026 Honoring Freedom, Preserving Heritage

Today, Belize joins the wider Caribbean in commemorating Emancipation Day, a day that marks the abolition of slavery and the triumph of resilience, dignity, and freedom.

At the National Heritage Library, we reflect on the struggles and sacrifices of our ancestors, whose courage laid the foundation for the Belize we know today. Emancipation is not only a historical milestone, it is a living reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard justice, equality, and cultural identity.

🌱📚 That’s a wrap! 🌱📚

Today marked the final day of our “Plant di Seed, Mek Wi Read” Summer Program 2026 and what an incredible journey it has been!

Over the past two weeks, our amazing participants explored the joy of reading, learned new skills, made lasting friendships, and created wonderful memories through games, crafts, presentations, and fun-filled activities.

A heartfelt thank you to the children, staff of ICL, Mr. Kenrick Gonzales from BFLA Dangriga, our volunteers, presenters, parents and partners. You all made this program such a success. Your support, time, and dedication made a lasting impact on the lives of our children.

To our young readers, keep planting the seeds of knowledge. ✨✨
