🚒🔥 CELEBRATING 84 YEARS OF SERVICE, DEDICATION & TRADITION! 🔥🚒

This past Friday, October 16th, Bay Roberts Fire Rescue celebrated our 84th Annual Firefighter’s Ball at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 32!

It was a wonderful evening bringing together our active and retired firefighters, families, friends, and special guests to celebrate the proud history of our department and recognize the dedication of our members.

❤️ IN LOVING MEMORY – NEWMAN PARSONS (1950–2026)

This year’s celebration was also a time to remember a very special member of our department, the late Newman Parsons.

Newman dedicated an incredible 60 years of service to Bay Roberts Fire Rescue. He was more than a firefighter and former Fire Chief. He was a mentor, a friend, and someone who helped shape the department we are today.

His dedication to the fire service and the community he loved will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on through the generations of firefighters who follow in his footsteps.

Rest peacefully, Newman. We got it from here. ❤️

This week, Mayor Geoff Seymour and the Town of Bay Roberts are pleased to recognize October 4–10, 2026, as Fire Prevention Week.

For more than a century, Fire Prevention Week has helped raise awareness of fire safety and the simple steps we can all take to protect our homes, families, and communities. This year’s theme, Charge Into Fire Safety, places a particular focus on lithium-ion battery safety and safe charging practices, reflecting the growing number of rechargeable devices used in our everyday lives.

Fire Prevention Week is also an opportunity to remind residents of the importance of checking smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, having and practicing a home escape plan, and being aware of potential fire hazards around the home.

The Town also recognizes the dedicated members Bay Roberts Fire Rescue and firefighters everywhere who serve their communities through emergency response, fire prevention, public education, and ongoing training.

We encourage all residents to take some time this week to review fire safety in their homes and learn how small preventative actions can make a significant difference.

🔥 BAY ROBERTS FIRE RESCUE OPEN HOUSE! 🚒

We’re opening our doors to the public on Monday, October 5th from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, and we’d love to see you there!

Bring the family down to the fire hall, meet some of our firefighters, get an up-close look at our trucks and equipment, enjoy some hot dogs and drinks, and have some fun with a few games along the way.

It’s a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to see what we do, learn a little more about the fire service, and spend an evening with your local firefighters.

Today, Bay Roberts Fire Rescue joins fire departments and communities around the world in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the nearly 3,000 people who never made it home that day, including the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what firefighters are called to do — running toward danger while others were trying to escape it.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and dedication continue to resonate throughout the fire service. We also remember the many first responders who have since lost their lives or continue to suffer from illnesses connected to their work at Ground Zero.

Today, we pause to honour the fallen, their families, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

We will never forget.

🔥 MONDAY NIGHT TRAINING — AN OPPORTUNITY WE WON’T FORGET 🔥

This past Monday night, members of Bay Roberts Fire Rescue had a training opportunity that doesn’t come around very often. We were fortunate to have a house in Bareneed donated to our department for live-fire training, giving our firefighters the opportunity to train under real fire and smoke conditions inside an actual residential structure.

With the house scheduled to be demolished the following day, we had a short window to make the most of this opportunity and our crews certainly did. Throughout the evening, members completed multiple live-fire evolutions involving search and rescue, hose advancement, managing pinch points, hydraulic and mechanical ventilation, vertical ventilation, fire attack, and locating and extinguishing the seat of the fire fire, and firefighter accountability.

There is only so much that can be recreated during regular training. Being able to work inside a real home under live-fire conditions gave our members the opportunity to experience heat, smoke, limited visibility, changing fire conditions and the challenges of moving hose through an actual residential layout. It also allowed our crews to see firsthand how ventilation, hose placement, communication and coordinated fire attack can directly affect conditions inside a structure.

For our experienced firefighters, it was an opportunity to sharpen skills and pass along knowledge. For our newer members, it was an invaluable chance to put their training into practice in an environment much closer to what they could experience when the pager goes off.

We cannot thank Robert Dougherty, Elizabeth Dougherty-Marbut and Mark Marbut enough for donating the house and allowing us to use it for this training. Their generosity provided our members with an experience that simply cannot be duplicated at the fire hall.

It was an incredible evening of training, and one we will be talking about and learning from for years to come.

🔥 VEHICLE FIRE TRAINING 🚒

This past Monday night, members of Bay Roberts Fire Rescue were back on the training ground working through vehicle fire scenarios, while bringing our newest recruits back to the basics. The night focused on proper PPE, apparatus positioning, hose line deployment, fire attack, teamwork, and understanding the hazards that can make vehicle fires extremely unpredictable. It was also a great opportunity for our experienced members to pass along their knowledge and help our recruits build confidence in the fundamentals.

At Bay Roberts Fire Rescue, we take our training seriously because when the tones drop, our community is counting on us to be ready. Whether you’re a new recruit learning the basics or an experienced firefighter sharpening your skills, there is always something to learn. Every training night, every hose line pulled, and every scenario completed helps make our crew stronger, safer, and better prepared when it matters most.
