What’s in the container? If you don’t know, neither do we.

Unlabelled fuels, cleaners, paint and other household hazardous waste creates risk for everyone. It requires a chemist to test the product, adding time and cost to a process that can often be avoided.

Before you bring hazardous waste in, make sure containers are clearly labelled and never mix products together.

It’s a small step that helps protect our staff, residents and the environment.

A new connection is helping move our region forward.

The Airport Trail and Stoney Trail NE interchange is now open, improving access for residents, businesses and commercial traffic in northeast Calgary and east Rocky View County.

“The opening of this interchange is a great example of what we can accomplish when municipalities, the Province, and private-sector partners work together. This investment strengthens a vital transportation connection, supports economic growth, and creates new opportunities for residents and businesses across our region," says Rocky View County Reeve Sunny Samra.

This project is a strong example of regional partnership in action. Working alongside the YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) and Genesis Land, Rocky View County helped bring this vital transportation connection to completion.

The interchange will support safer, more efficient travel today while helping create new opportunities for future jobs, investment and growth in our region.

Give livestock haulers extra space.

Trucks hauling horses or cattle are heavier, need more room to stop and are carrying live animals that can be affected by sudden braking or sharp turns.

▪️Following? Leave plenty of space.
▪️Passing? Don’t merge back in too closely.
▪️Driving ahead? Avoid sudden stops whenever possible.

A little patience helps keep drivers, livestock and everyone on our rural roads safer.

Brush Fire South of Indus

Final Update - 8:00 p.m.

Rocky View County Fire Services has concluded firefighting operations at the grass fire south of Indus. All responding crews have cleared the scene.

No injuries were reported, and no structures were lost as a result of the fire.

Rocky View County extends its appreciation to Fire Services crews, our mutual aid partners and the surrounding community for their assistance and cooperation throughout the response.

This is the final update on this incident.

Update #2 - 6:30 p.m.

The fire has been brought under control. All responding crews remain on scene conducting spot fire and bale fire mitigation and monitoring the area. Further updates will be provided as necessary.

Update #1 - 5:30 p.m.
Rocky View County Fire Services is responding to a significant brush fire south of Indus, near Range Road 282 and Township Road 224.

The fire is estimated to be between five and 10 acres in size, with high winds creating challenging conditions for firefighters. Crews from Langdon, Balzac, Irricana, Foothills County and City of Chestermere are responding.

At this time, no injuries have been reported and no structures are involved.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area to ensure their safety and allow emergency crews to respond safely.

Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

For Rocky View County farmers, harvest safety starts before the combine enters the field.

A combine fire can spread quickly through dry crops and stubble – putting people, equipment and the harvest at risk.

Before and during the day:
🌾Clear dust, chaff and crop residue from hot and moving parts
🌾Check for fluid leaks, damaged wiring and signs of overheating
🌾Keep fire extinguishers accessible and ready to use
🌾Refuel only after equipment is shut off and has cooled down

If a fire starts, get to safety, call for help and do not risk your life to save equipment.

Missed the Household Hazardous Waste Roundups? You still have options.

Many items can be dropped off year-round at select Rocky View County Transfer Sites, including Bragg Creek, Langdon, Irricana, Cochrane and Airdrie.

This includes household hazardous waste such as old paint, cleaners, oil, batteries, propane tanks, electronics and obsolete agricultural pesticides. Tires, agricultural plastic grain bags and twine may also be accepted at select locations.

These materials should never go in the landfill or down the drain. Proper disposal helps protect our soil, water, wildlife and community.

♻️ Used Oil Recycling is now available at the Springbank Transfer Site!

Residents can now drop off lubricating oil, oil containers, oil filters and antifreeze through Alberta Recycling's Used Oil Materials Recycling Program.

This residential recycling service provides a convenient way to recycle used oil materials and help protect our land and waterways.
