Cottage and Camp Fire Safety

Camping and cottage nights are for relaxing - not reacting

With peak season in full swing, campfires and BBQs are everywhere. But one unattended flame can spread fast in dry conditions.

Don’t leave it till it’s out:
✔ Pour water on it
✔ Stir it up to ensure no hidden embers
✔ Make sure it’s completely cool

Because the only thing that should be spreading this summer is good vibes.

Tiny Butt-Big Problem

Late summer heat can turn dry lawns, mulch, and yard debris into quick-burning fuel and even small sparks can cause major problems. Carelessly tossed smoking materials are still one of the top causes of preventable outdoor fires.

Before you walk away, take a second to do it right:
✔ Fully put it out (no smoke, no heat!)
✔ Use a proper ashtray
✔ Keep cigarette butts out of gardens, planters, and landscaping

Let’s keep things glowing for the right reasons - sunshine, not fires.

Road Closure Notice

Please be advised that 4th Line is closed until further notice between Regional Road 9 and McKenzie Road due to an ongoing motor vehicle collision investigation.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and obey all posted road closure signs and directions from emergency personnel.

Your Quick Packing Checklist:

• Carry-on only: Pack power banks in carry-on bags only—never in checked luggage.
• Tape terminals: Prevent short circuits by taping over metal contacts or using individual plastic bags.
• Avoid heat: Never leave power banks in direct sunlight or on a hot car dashboard.
• Check damage: Inspect for swelling or leaks before you pack; never travel with a damaged item.

Many third-party marketplace batteries lack the safety protections needed to prevent "thermal runaway" fires or explosions. 💣
Key Safety Checks:
• Look for the Mark: Only use batteries with recognized Canadian certification marks: CSA, cUL, or cETL. ✅
• The Price Test: If the price is significantly lower than the official market rate, it’s a red flag. 🚩
• Check the Packaging: Typos or poor grammar on the box should alarm you. 📦✍️
• Buy OEM: Purchase replacements directly from the original manufacturer to ensure quality. 🛡️

Heat Waves- Don’t let your battery bake

Heat is a battery killer.

Lithium-ion batteries in phones and power tools fail when they get too hot. Leaving them in direct sun on a deck or in a parked car causes the internal chemistry to break down, leading to swelling and fire risks.

Tools: Keep them in the shade on the job site.
Phones: Take them with you. A parked car is an oven.
Charging: If the device is hot, let it cool before plugging it in.
