🔔 Today is the day to test your Smoke Alarms! 🔔

Today is Saved by the Beep Day, a reminder that working smoke alarms save lives.

When a smoke alarm sounds, you may have as little as 1 minute to safely escape a fire. That's why it's important to:

✅ Test your smoke alarms monthly
✅ Make sure there is a working smoke alarm on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas
✅ Replace batteries when needed (unless equipped with a sealed long-life battery)
✅ Check the date on your Smoke Alarm and replace if needed
✅ Practice your home fire escape plan with everyone in your household

A smoke alarm can only save your life but only if it's working. Take a few minutes today to test your alarms and ensure your family is prepared.

Saved by the Beep starts with ensuring that beep is there and functioning when you need it most. Test your smoke alarms today and be ready to escape safely.

🚨 Today, Haldimand County held its annual emergency management exercise. These exercises are held every year and bring together Haldimand Fire & EMS, the Head of Council, certain administrative staff and external agencies to practice how we respond to different emergency scenarios.

🌪️ Scenarios vary every year, and may involve a natural disaster (like flooding, a tornado or disease outbreak), or something caused by human error or interference – like a chemical spill or cyber-attack. Every situation is designed to test staff’s understanding of their roles during an emergency and provide an opportunity for Haldimand’s Emergency Control and Support Groups to work together on a unified, coordinated response.

❗Planning for potential emergencies is key to being prepared for an actual crisis within the community. Residents are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with local risks and have a plan in place, as well as a 72-hour kit ready, should an emergency situation arise.

Today, on the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, Haldimand County Emergency Services held a ceremony and have placed a monument to honour those that gave the ultimate sacrifice 25 years ago, remembering the nearly 3000 lives lost and the countless families changed forever.

We honour the courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication of the 343 firefighters and Paramedics, 60 Police officers and other emergency personnel along with the emergency dispatchers who answered the call that day. They demonstrated extraordinary bravery when faced with unimaginable circumstances.

Twenty-five years later, the lessons of unity, resilience and service continue to guide all of us in emergency services. We remain committed to protecting our communities, supporting each other no matter which uniform we wear and carrying on the legacy of those who served selflessly on September 11, 2001.

As we remember those we lost, we reaffirm our commitment to serve with the same courage, dedication, and sense of duty they exemplified.
