It's International Dog Day 🐶

Canine companions can be positive additions to our community when we all practice responsible pet ownership!

✅Leash your dog in public spaces and clean up waste.
✅Supervise outdoor time to ensure they don't escape or become a nuisance to neighbors.
✅Provide positive socialization starting as a puppy.
✅Talk to a veterinarian about appropriate vaccinations and sterilization.
✅Have proper pet identification like registration tags and a microchip.

In the interest of public safety, health, and the enjoyment of neighbourhoods and green spaces, all dogs must be leashed and under control while out with their owners in public spaces. It's the law!

Additionally, dog owners must pick up and dispose of their pets' waste. Fines under the Lethbridge Animal Care and Control Bylaw start at $100.

It's Check The Chip Day!

Did you know that 1 in 3 pets will go missing in their lifetime? Although not a substitute for registration tags, microchips are the most secure form of permanent ID for your pets. If properly registered, microchips provide proof of ownership and drastically increase the chances of owners and lost pets being reunited.

➡️ Talk to your veterinarian about having your pets microchipped, it's inexpensive and the peace of mind is priceless.
➡️ If your animals already have microchips, have your veterinarian clinic or the animal shelter scan the chip and make sure all the information logged is up to date. Your annual city dog license fee is also discounted if the pet has a microchip.
🗓️ Stay tuned for details on the next low-cost microchipping event coming up in mid September at the Lethbridge Animal Shelter.

🟡CAT INTAKE WARNING🟡

Occupancy for cats at the Lethbridge Animal Shelter is nearing capacity limits. We remind the public that not every roaming cat requires intervention, and the mandate of Community Animal Services is to address bylaw violations and provide care and housing to found pets that are experiencing distress. If you have found a roaming or stray cat, please keep the following in mind;

🐈 Cat is friendly, social, and shows no signs of distress, it is likely someone's pet. ➡️ Keep it in the area. Check for ID, post on social media groups, and speak with neighbours.

😿 Poor body condition, young kittens, or appears uncared for. ➡️ Monitor the cat, and attempt to locate an owner. Submit an intake request to animal services.

🏥 Serious injury or illness requiring veterinary intervention (i.e., immobile, bleeding, etc.), trapped, or deceased. ➡️ Call animal services for assistance.

All intake of found pets to the Lethbridge Animal Shelter is triaged, and admittance is subject to available kennel space.

It's International Cat Day 🐱

Lets' celebrate, and raise awareness for the feline companion.

Every year, hundreds of roaming and unwanted cats from the Lethbridge area are taken into local shelters and rescues. This is all very preventable and starts with responsible pet ownership.
Please;
✅Spay or neuter your cat
✅Microchip and register
✅Keep your cat safe and secure at home

Please consider adopting a cat from the Lethbridge Animal Shelter or any of the local rescue groups.
