🇨🇦 AN INCREDIBLE STORY OF REMEMBRANCE, VETERAN AWARENESS & A JOURNEY ACROSS CANADA 🇨🇦

Today at the Metcalfe Farmers' Market, we had the privilege of meeting Sue Milner and her husband (“just the driver”) and learning about the incredible journey they have undertaken to honour Veterans and keep their stories and sacrifices in the public eye.

Sue’s journey began following a powerful vision she experienced after 9/11. As the daughter of a Veteran, remembrance has always held a very special place in her heart.

In 2019, Sue and her husband began travelling with a smaller trailer, sharing Sue’s writing and bringing awareness to Veterans and remembrance wherever the road took them. In 2023, their much larger and very impressive trailer Footsteps Of Canadian Heroes Remembrance Tour came to life, creating an even more visible way to share their message with communities across the country.

And what a journey it has been! 🇨🇦

Sue has written more than 5,000 poems, received awards for her work and published two books, in 2015 and 2020. Her writing is inspired by the visions and messages she receives, and one of her books is even proudly displayed in a case at a museum in Winnipeg.

Together, they have travelled across Canada, from British Columbia all the way to Newfoundland, taking their message of Veteran awareness and remembrance to communities along the way.

Their incredible travels have also included journeys with The Rolling Barrage and the Highway of Heroes in Ontario and Nova Scotia — connecting with Veterans, families and communities while continuing their mission to make sure our Veterans are seen, supported and, above all, never forgotten. 🇨🇦🏍️🌺

Sue is very much the mastermind, writer and driving force behind this incredible project… while her husband will happily tell you that he is “just the driver” who gets her where she needs to go! ❤️🚐

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet them today, hear their story and see firsthand the passion behind what they do.

From everyone at Russell Legion Branch 372, thank you both for the thousands of kilometres travelled, the countless conversations started and for continuing to ensure that the service and sacrifices of our Veterans are never forgotten.

❤️ And this won’t be the last time you hear about Sue and her incredible journey!

We look forward to welcoming Sue and her husband to Russell Legion Branch 372 sometime soon so our community can experience their story and incredible display for themselves.

🇨🇦 Veterans Events at Russell Legion Branch 372 🇨🇦

We are pleased to share some upcoming activities for our local Veterans!

🍳 Veterans Breakfast

Our first Veterans Breakfast was held on August 18 and was very well attended! A heartfelt thank you to Billy Cashman and his entire crew for putting this on. ❤️

We look forward to continuing these breakfasts once a month, on a Saturday or Sunday. Upcoming dates will be announced.

🇨🇦 Veterans Field Trip – September 8

Our Veterans are invited to join us for a trip to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the National War Museum.

🍽️ Lunch will be at our Veterans’ expense.
🚗 We will be carpooling.
📅 Please RSVP no later than September 1.

If you are able to drive, please let us know how many Veterans you can accommodate in your vehicle.
